Port Royale 4 devs host another live-stream gameplay session

We'll have to wait a bit longer for Port Royale to make its way to Switch, but at least we have some more gameplay to enjoy until then. The dev team has done another two-hour live-stream to show off the game, and you can check out the full archive above.

Publisher Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios have today unveiled a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette and a selection of stunning new screenshots for upcoming trading simulation Port Royale 4, offering a deep dive into the mechanics and features of the game ahead of its release on Friday 25th September for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The newest entry in the franchise, Port Royale 4 invites players to join the colonial powers of Spain, England, France and the Netherlands, and embark in a real-time trading adventure throughout the 17th century Caribbean. The game features the largest game world in the series to-date, including 12 square kilometres for players to explore and examine in breathtaking detail using the game’s seamless zoom function. Players can also take advantage of an overarching world map to plot customized trade routes, navigate rough weather and shallow waters, and create a productive trading network across the Caribbean.

For the first time in the series’ history, Port Royale 4 also features turn-based combat. Players can assemble a fleet and engage in maritime combat, protecting their wares from pirates, engaging in a spot of piracy themselves, or simply taking on rival traders.

This ship's setting sail

Port Royale 4 was announced for Switch release a few months back, and it seems we might be inching closer to release. The game's official European cover art was added to an Amazon Italy listing recently, along with a release date. While we can't confirm the date to be true yet, Amazon thinks the game is launching on Sept. 25th, 2020.

Set sail in September

Publisher Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios have confirmed a release date for Port Royale 4. The sea-faring business simulation was previously announced with a vague Q4 2020 release date a few months back, but now we know the game is going to release on Sept. 25th, 2020.

Ridgewood, NJ - (August 19, 2019) - Following an exclusive reveal as part of gamescom Opening Night Live with Geoff Keighley, Kalypso Media has announced Port Royale 4, an all-new entry in the seafaring trading sim series, financially supported by 'Film und Medienstiftung NRW’ and developed by Gaming Minds Studios (Railway Empire, Patrician) for release in Q4 2020 on Windows PC, PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

In Port Royale 4, take control of a colony as a young and ambitious governor, eager to grow their small settlement into a bustling trader city. Players will develop production chains connecting multiple islands to create complex trade routes across the Caribbean and fulfil tasks for their nation’s viceroy to earn more fame and unlock town buildings, ships and more.

Along the way, conquer the cities of rival nations and hunt down their fleets while keeping a keen eye out for pirates and other privateers. For the first time in the series, naval battles will be turn-based, with up to ten ships battling at a time and special tactical captain maneuvers that can turn the tide of battle.
