Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns patch now available

Let the quest continue

A patch has been pushed live for Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns. We aren't sure of the version number, nor do we know the details on what the patch does. The team identified an overpowered enemy glitch earlier on, and said they were working on a fix as of Sept. 20th, 2019. It's likely this patch addresses that issue, as well as some other minor hiccups!

How do you like your puzzle games? Do you like them in traditional match-3 form, or with a goose? Either way, you can get your fill via the videos above!

Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns suffering from an overpowered enemy glitch

Your quest ends here

Some who have picked up Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns are currently dealing with a nasty bug. Something is causing the game to spit out ridiculously overpowered enemies very early on in the quest. These enemies are so tough that you literally can't progress past them, as you're now powerful enough. Thankfully the developer is aware of the issue, and are working to track down a solution. Check out their message below.

Producer for the game here over at D3. Wanted to let you know that we've seen these reports and are investigating. From what we're seeing so far, it looks to be an isolated bug that isn't happening to many players, but is still hitting some people. Good news, most players seem to be just fine. Bad news, it seems to be random so far as to who it's hitting which makes the bug harder to track down and squash. They don't call that enemy a Rogue Skeleton for nothing.

We're not sure precisely what's causing this issue yet appreciate any info you all can give on characters that are experiencing it. Character class, selected items, spells, side quests that you may have done leading up to seeing it, etc. We're grabbing all the info from players that we can see, but concise information will help to track it down quicker.

I know that some of you have tried uninstalling and such to see if a "1.0 non-patched version" or something fixes it, but since there wasn't a day zero patch, that's unlikely to work. We're trying to replicate this bug internally as well and I'll update if we have any workarounds to share in the meantime.

We apologize to players that are experiencing this issue and hope to have a fix ASAP that we can get into the game.

Puzzle Quest creator discusses Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns' new features, talks about the potential for other remasters

Could there be more Puzzle games on the way?

The original Puzzle Quest is getting a fresh coat of paint before it hits Switch as Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns. The goal of this version of the game is to revamp the original DS experience for Switch owners, but is there anything new in there?
Puzzle Quest creator Steve Fawkner talked to Nintendo Life about some of the fresh features.

As mentioned previously, we have 2 expansions never seen before on Nintendo Switch – in fact the Attack of the Golem Lord expansion was written specifically for this release! There are some great new Hero Classes including the Blood Mage and the Paladin, lots of new Enemies and Quests, and a ton of powerful new Magic Items to collect.

As far as Switch features go, we concentrated on what we felt was the core of the Switch – seamless movement between touch screen and joy-con input, and local multiplayer support for when you just need to prove you’re better at smashing match-3 puzzles than your friends!

The Puzzle Quest series spawned all sorts of sequels and spin-offs. Is there any chance those could come over to the Switch? That all depends on how Puzzle Quest's Switch version does, says Fawkner.

We’ll definitely be sitting here, with our fingers crossed, hoping that Puzzle Quest finds its audience again. And if it does, I think we’d relish the opportunity to bring some of our other titles up-to-date with a really strong remastering on Nintendo Switch, like we’ve done with Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns.
