Footage shows how DOOM 64's new content ties into DOOM Eternal

Doubling down on DOOM

DOOM 64 has gotten a new chapter that ties directly into DOOM Eternal. If you don't mind a bit of spoiler content for the new chapter, check out the videos above to see how things mesh together.

DOOM 64's re-release will include a brand-new chapter

Hell of a surprise!

DOOM 64 is probably the DOOM franchise entry that the fewest amount of fans have played. Other installments like the original DOOM trilogy have released in numerous ways over the years, but DOOM 64 has been neglected. That all changes on March 20th, 2020, when Switch owners will be able to revisit the classic, albeit with some new content.

In an interview with USGamer, James Haley, senior developer reveals that DOOM 64 has been updated with a brand-new chapter. Check out details on that inclusion below.

On our end, persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy's saga, taking place shortly after [Doom 64's] original campaign concludes. The Mother Demon you defeated in that outing had a sister, and since you've been messing up Hell non-stop, she tries to get rid of you by sending you away. If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy.

DOOM 64 priced at $5

A Hell of a deal

While Switch owners won't be getting DOOM Eternal on March 20th, 2020 like PS4/XB1 owners, we will be getting DOOM 64 that day. DOOM Classic and DOOM II were both priced at $5 when they hit the Switch, but many expected DOOM 64 to cost a bit more. Thankfully that's not going to be the case, and DOOM 64 is listed as $5 as well. Can't wait to give this one another go!

DOOM 64 to receive a number of visual tweaks

Now you can see what you're killing!

Those who remember playing DOOM 64 back in the day most likely recall it as an extremely dark and hard-to-see experience. The game definitely overdid it in the dim lightning department, and thankfully the team working to bring DOOM 64 to Switch are aware of that. They're working on several visual improvements for the game, including the following.

- options from environmental brightness
- anti-aliasing
- filter options
- field of view
- blood color option
