Dangerous Driving 2 dev says there were a lot of requests for a Switch version

Fans were a driving force

Dangerous Driving 2, coming from devs that worked on Burnout, was confirmed for Switch not that long ago. The first game didn't make its way to Switch, but the second is a lock. What cemented the decision to support Switch? In an interview with USGamer, developer Alex Ward explains.

"We have a lot of requests for it, and there's not many arcade driving games on it. We work on Unreal Engine, right? [Epic Games] makes Fortnite, so if Epic does a good game on the Switch, all their work, tech, and expertise filters down to developers like us, which makes it quicker and more efficient for us to get on the Switch."

Work on Dangerous Driving 2's Switch version started in January, and has been handled by one person

Talk about dev burnout!

Dangerous Driving 2 was announced on Feb. 19th, 2020, and it's making its way to Switch. We missed out on the first entry in this franchise from the former Burnout team, but they're making sure Switch owners get in on the fun the second time around.

The game will be sometime in 2020, and the dev team is already hard at work on making the Switch version the best it can be. While general development on the game started in Nov. 2019, the Switch porting process kicked off in Jan. 2020. Somehow, the team already had a Switch version up-and-running for PAX East! Even more impressive, the developer had just one team member of their seven-person team working on the port. Looks like that person knows what they're doing!

The final version of the game on other platforms is going to allow for 4-player splitscreen action, but that's not confirmed for Switch at this time. The team needs to put in more work and see what's possible. Hopefully they can make the feature work, but I'd imagine a two-player splitscreen experience on Switch is more likely.

Dangerous Driving 2 announced from Three Fields Entertainment, coming to Switch this holiday, playable at PAX East 2020

Speeding onto Switch later this year

The sequel to the Burnout spiritual successor has been officially announced by development studio Three Fields Entertainment, and will be coming to Nintendo Switch. While Dangerous Driving 2 doesn't have a final release date yet, it's been confirmed to be releasing sometime this holiday for all platforms. Gameplay footage hasn't been revealed, but a demo of the game will be playable at PAX East 2020 later this month. A synopsis of the game can be found below.

Dangerous Driving 2 is the arcade racer for everyone, featuring slick driving that rewards racing fans wanting to test their lightning reflexes at eye watering speeds. Set within a dynamic open world, players can choose how they want to race, either by competing in a host of thrilling events against AI opponents or going for a cruise in freedrive mode and testing the limits of the game’s emergent crash mechanics with huge multi-vehicle pile-ups. This world can be explored solo or in split-screen multiplayer, while those looking to challenge the best drivers around the globe can take the action online.
