Let's rally!

The industry reference in the sim-racing world returns! WRC 9 includes many improvements in vehicle behaviour, driving realism and new game modes – including Clubs, a free roaming zone to test cars’ settings, and an enriched Career Mode – allowing players to truly put themselves in the shoes of a rally driver.

New features of WRC 9 unveiled at Gamescom 2020

New improvements detailed

For Gamescom, NACON and KT Racing provided a complete overview of the new features included in WRC 9, the official video game of the FIA World Rally Championship.

A few days before release, Alain Jarniou, Creative Director at KT Racing, discusses the game's improvements in a new video.

The 2020 WRC season has had a number of changes due to the pandemic. Several rallies were cancelled, including three iconic countries that are featured in the game for the first time. This is a chance for fans to console themselves and try out three new circuits:

The legendary Rally Kenya with its exotic landscapes alternating between wide-open savannah and small villages with very narrow roads

New Zealand, a very technical gravel rally with multiple bends in quick succession

Japan, a rally on asphalt based in Nagoya with narrow mountain roads

The simulation aspect has been updated again this year with multiple redesigned elements, including the dynamics, AI, vehicle behaviour and driving sensations. All players can also fine-tune their cars before taking them for a test drive in different conditions on the free-roam zone’s roads.

A major new feature this year is the Clubs mode, which allows players to create their own championship and make it available for their friends or the whole community. They can select the vehicle category, championship conditions and up to eight special stages in their choice of country – a mode eagerly awaited by the community!

WRC 9 will have a longer lifespan thanks to several free updates after the game's release. The new content to be added includes the Co-driver Mode, where two players can play together as a team online and enjoy the real rally experience. For an even more complete game, a Photo Mode will also be added, as well as new cars, teams and special stages in the Portugal and Finland rallies.

With WRC 9, the passionate developers of the French studio KT Racing have pulled out all the stops to once again meet the high expectations of rally fans looking for tougher challenges and heightened realism. With an enhanced career mode and many technical improvements, players are thrust into the heart of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship season with many great highlights.

3 new rallies: Japan, New Zealand, Kenya
Over 50 official teams and their livery from the WRC, WRC 2, WRC 3 and Junior WRC
Over 15 bonus cars that have left their mark on the history of the WRC

WRC 9 will be available on September 3rd, 2020 on Xbox One, PS4™ and PC from the Epic Games Store. Release timing for Xbox Series X, PS5™ and Nintendo Switch will be announced at a later date.

NACON, KT Racing and the FIA reveal new collaboration for WRC 9

NACON, KT Racing and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) are delighted to unveil their brand-new collaboration for the first worldwide programme to discover future rally drivers: FIA Rally Star. It will be available this December through a DLC for WRC 9, the official video game of the FIA World Rally Championship.

The eSports WRC Championship already provides many talented players the chance to compete throughout the year in a virtual competition that mirrors the World Rally Championship, WRC 9 is taking the next step to become the exclusive platform for this innovative new programme that aims to unearth the drivers of tomorrow.

Open to all players between 17 and 26 years old, this multi-phase selection process gives the most promising drivers the opportunity to take part in a training and coaching programme supervised by the FIA. Seven finalists, including one female driver, could ultimately start their international career before aiming to join the FIA Junior WRC.

Attention drivers! The first FIA Rally Star qualification phase starts in 2021 in WRC 9. The programme is available to anyone who owns the game on consoles or PC as part of the FIA Rally Star DLC, available in December.

As the latest version of the WRC’s popular video game, WRC 9 is the best game for young drivers to reveal their skills. Giving access to more than 800km of special stage from all 13 schedules rounds of the 2020 season, WRC 9 is the most realistic rally simulation ever made.

“Being innovative and global, FIA Rally Star’s ambition is to develop new solutions allowing young drivers from all over the world to reveal their potential. As soon as we introduced the project to NACON and KT Racing teams, they showed great enthusiasm and we couldn’t have hoped for better platform than WRC 9 to select the most promising candidates.” declares Yves Matton, Rally Director at FIA. “The FIA World Rally Championship brings together fans from every continent. Many of them dream to get behind the wheel and our wish is to make our sport more accessible. Through FIA Rally Star and its digital version in WRC 9, living this passion is simpler than ever.”

"The idea that the future stars of rally will start their professional driving careers because of WRC 9 is a great pride for the entire team and one of the best rewards for all the work we have put in over the last few years," said Roman Vincent, founder and CEO of KT Racing development studio. "After the success of eSports WRC, which has already unearthed hugely talented players, we can't wait to find out who will be the finalists of FIA Rally Star!"

Destination New Zealand with WRC 9

Buckle up for a bumpy ride

NACON and its development studio KT Racing are pleased to unveil the first gameplay video for WRC 9, the official video game of the FIA World Rally Championship. This gameplay video gives fans of the competition a glimpse of the work put in by KT Racing to recreate the iconic Rally New Zealand, which is making a big return to the FIA World Rally Championship calendar after a seven-year absence. It is one of three new rallies this season, along with the Safari Rally in Kenya and Rally Japan, which fans and players of WRC are eagerly anticipating.

In this brand-new rally, players will face a tough challenge along the rugged coastline and wild lands around Auckland in the heart of the North Island.

“Roads in New-Zealand are amongst the most beautiful and the most appreciated in the Championship’s history.” tells Benoît Gomes, Lead Level Designer at KT Racing. “Famous for its fast chains of turns and a sustained pace rhythm, along with breath-taking landscapes, Rally New-Zealand truly offers a particular experience. A long preparation work allowed us to replicate, as closely as possible, the luxuriant vegetation, the light and unique ocean views, as well as the road’s topography and surfaces, mainly composed of gravel. We’re convinced that players will enjoy taking up this challenge as much as we did in WRC 9.” concludes Benoît Gomes.
