Othercide’s latest update will add a new mission type and reconfigured maps

Variety is the spice of life

Othercide is getting an update sometime in December that's going to add some variety to gameplay. A new mission type and reconfigured maps are on the way, and you can get full details in the press release below.

Othercide, the dark and twisted tactical RPG from Lightbulb Crew and Focus Home Interactive, gets a major update today on PC, these features coming in December to consoles. The game has already enjoyed acclaim from press and players alike since its release on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. After the addition of the eagerly-awaited Dream mode a few weeks ago, today’s newest type of mission, Penance, will now show up during campaigns, while changes to the map system bring even more variety and replayability.

A new mission type and changes to map rules ensure diverse missions

Penance is a brand new type of mission that forces a balanced offensive and defensive playstyle. In it, swarms of enemies approach and will inevitably attack your daughters. However, rather than blindly fighting their way out of it, each daughter must slay a specific number of foes to fill their Penance gauge and leave the battlefield. Be sure to not have one of your Daughters killing too many enemies, or your remaining Daughters will have to fight alone to reach Penance! Meanwhile, the changes to which maps can appear should keep each mission feeling varied and interesting throughout a campaign, adding even more replayability.

Othercide is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Players can also get the GAME + OST + ARTBOOK Bundle on Steam, with an additional special discount. Celebrating the update, Othercide is available at 33% off on Steam.

Othercide updated to Version 1.2.0.2

Includes a new 'Dream Mode' and more

Othercide has been updated to Version 1.2.0.2. Check out what's included in this update via the patch notes below.

New Features

Dream Mode: The completely optional Easy mode is called “Dream Mode”, in opposition to “Nightmare Mode” for the original experience. It adds new elements aimed towards providing a more forgiving experience for inexperienced players, while keeping the overall game feel lethal and impactful. Here are more details:

Resurrection Token: Players are granted 1 additional Resurrection Token at the start of every run which should help new players resurrect their lost daughter (and best daughter, starting with the 2nd run). It comes in addition to the Rescue mission drop-rate fix, which should also provide more frequent opportunities to win Resurrection Tokens on both modes.

HP Regeneration: Injured Daughters recover 50% of their total HP each day. It allows players to take 1-2 hits per daughter in a mission in the early game, and recover most of the HP for the next one. It also allows players who want to use HP-consuming skills (Interruptions, Reactions) to use them more often, as you recover an amount of HP worth 5 Interruptions / 10 Reactions per day.

Sacrifice: While its early-game use is diminished by the above, Sacrifice remains available as a secondary way to recover HP if your favorite daughter takes a bad hit right before a Boss fight for instance. Its cost is also reduced thanks to the additional Resurrection Token, and fully recovers a Daughter’s HP, as opposed to the 50% heal of moving to the next day. It remains key to the mid- to late-game power scaling thanks to the Souls Traits mechanic.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue related to the skill Dance of the Dead of the Scythedancer in which damage was not increased by 15%
Fixed an issue in which activating more than 1 interruption or reaction skills was adding a new icon on the timeline instead of replacing it
Fixed an issue in which fleeing a mission would result in a run loss instead of being returned to the inner void
Fixed an issue on the final boss map, if a daughter were placed on his spawn tile, he would spawn out of the map
Fixed issues in which the Level-up UI VFX was displayed, even if the daughters were not leveling up
Fixed an issue in which you would not get the remembrances page after winning the game
Fixed an issue in which the start mission initiative stat of a Scythedancer was negative, making her impossible to play on her very first turn
Fixed an issue in which abandoning a boss fight when he spawns would block the game
Fixed an issue in which the button to open the stacker on the timeline was missing
Fixed an issue in-game options, in which the cursor would disappear when put in the top of the list
Fixed an issue in which the final boss was looking too bright in its first form
Fixed an issue in which 2 memories were not unlockable

2Awesome Studio Helps Bring Othercide to Switch Today

See you on the othercide

Today, 2Awesome Studio is announcing its latest venture; porting of Othercide to Nintendo Switch for release today! The announcement comes after Othercide's Switch Release Date reveal, and in partnership with Focus Home Interactive and Lightbulb Crew, publisher and developer of Othercide, respectively.

Othercide is a dark and brooding tactical-RPG available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, and boasts highly positive reviews across all platforms. IGN calls Othercide, "the best turn-based tactics game of the year so far," and now, in partnership with 2Awesome Studio, is being introduced to the Nintendo Switch community today!

"Bringing Othercide to Nintendo Switch was one of the biggest challenges for us as a studio. When Lightbulb Crew approached us about this possibility we weren't sure if it was going to be possible. Othercide has a unique color scheme and visual style that requires the use of advanced volumetric lightning, fog effects, PBR reflections and even cloth and hair simulation. The challenge was not just bringing it to Switch but making sure it would be as faithful to the original vision as possible making it a great portable experience. I can say I am proud of the results of our team", said Alejandro Santiago, Co-founder and Lead developer at 2Awesome Studio.
