Nintendo removes Wii, WiiWare, DS, and DSiWare games from their website, Wii U page removed as well

End of an era

Nintendo has done a bit of housecleaning on their official website. If you're looking for listings on Wii, WiiWare, DS, and DSiWare games, you'll have to look elsewhere. Nintendo has removed all pages for those games. On top of that, Nintendo has taken down the info page for the Wii U as well. I guess Nintendo had to make some room for all the recent Switch games!

Flipnote Studio 3D - DSi Library feature now closed

Another part of Flipnote Studio 3D has now bitten the dust. Nintendo America confirmed the closure of the DSi Library feature in Flipnote Studio 31. The service ended on March 31st, 2018. The Nintendo DSi Library allowed users to download Flipnote creations posted from Flipnote Hatena.

Japan - Bejeweled Twist to be removed from 3DS eShop

I guess Square-Enix's license on Bejewled has run out over in Japan. The company has announced that the DSiWare title Bejeweled Twist is going to be removed from the 3DS eShop on February 7th, 2018. No reason for the removal was given.

Circle explains their mission, why they support 3DS eShop

Coming from a TinyCartridge interview with Circle CEO Chris Chau,..

"We have been running CIRCLE for 10 years. There were two of us when we established the company in Hong Kong, using our savings. CIRCLE, a small circle, filling with our passion and love in games

DSiWare gave us a chance to work for console, without huge game content. Besides, publishers were willing to provide a little budget for small projects, and that was a way to get money from publishers.

We focus on handheld publishing, because Wii U titles don’t work well on Japan’s eShop, and then we wouldn’t have bullets to shoot to the western eShop. PS4 requested higher quality games and the biggest budgets. We found Nintendo 3DS to be a quite peaceful platform. Indies can design something not very commercial, and get revenue without much pressure.”

Mixed Messages seeing 3DS eShop-specific release

Oh man, I am very excited about this. If you've been with GoNintendo for a long time, you may remember me gushing about Mixed Messages. It originally released on DSiWare and I absolutely loved it. To tell you the truth, my appreciation of the game has only grown since then. Believe it or not, we still play the game to this very day! We actually played it just a few weeks back.

Now we have some great news for those that haven't grabbed the title yet. It seems like the game is getting a 3DS eShop-specific release. With the DSiWare shop closing in the near future, I'm happy to see this title isn't disappearing with it. Will the 3DS eShop-specific release have any new bells and whistles? That would certainly be nice, but I imagine it's just going to be the exact same game. Like I said, it's nice to know the title won't be lost forever to the DSi Shop.

Activision and Vicarious Visions were behind the original release, and I imagine at least Activision will still be involved here. We'll get you more details when they come in!
