BitSummit 2020 officially cancelled due to coronavirus

Another cancelled gaming event

Due to the growing concerns of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we are very sad to inform you that BitSummit The 8th Bit will no longer be held on May 9th and 10th as planned, as the spread does not show any sign of slowing down.

We would like to extend our deepest apologies for this inconvenience to all of our partners, supporters, exhibitors and long-time visitors who were eager to participate in the 8th edition of BitSummit.

With the safety of our guests being our very first priority, we have made the difficult decision to avoid any chance of the virus spreading any further.

We are incredibly thankful for all the support, advice and encouragement we’ve received from all our partners and patrons. Our plans are to continue working on BitSummit The 8th Bit, and we will share more information on the status of the show in the coming weeks.

E3 2020 has officially been cancelled due to coronavirus, ESA still planning an "online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020"

Sad times indeed...

WASHINGTON - MARCH 11, 2020 - After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry - our fans, our employees, our exhibitors, and our longtime E3 partners - we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.

Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it's the right decision based on the information we have today.

Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.

We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020. Updates will be shared on E3expo.com.

The International Challenge February is a great chance to practice for your next live tournament while competing for Championship Points toward qualification for the 2020 Pokémon World Championships. Plus, everyone who registers and completes at least one battle will get a fashionable T-shirt featuring their good friend Ball Guy for their Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield character to wear.

The sign-up period will last from Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. PST until Thursday, February 27, 2020, at 3:59 p.m. PST. Nintendo of America tweets a reminder for The Game Awards, airing tomorrow at 5:30pm PT

We are all hoping for a Smash reveal...

The Game Awards is one of the biggest nights in gaming, and it's just around the corner! The awards show will be airing live, starting tomorrow at 5:30pm PT. Game announcements and teases happen every year at the event from many different companies, and Nintendo is no stranger in participating. Last year, Joker infiltrated the theater, revealing him as the first DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Marvel Ultimate Alliance was also announced at TGA last year as a Switch exclusive title. Since Nintendo is now tweeting about the 2019 event, there is not much doubt that something will be revealed from them soon.

Could we possibly see another Smash character reveal? We don't have long to find out what Nintendo has in store for us.

Pokémon VGC 2020 tournament ruleset announced

Prepare for battle!

The full ruleset for the Pokémon Sword and Shield VGC tournament in 2020 has been revealed, with a start date of Jaunary 4th. Check out the details below!

2020 Pokémon Video Game Championships (VGC) Format Rules Tournaments will be shifting to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield starting January 4, 2020.

Battles in the Pokémon Video Game Championships will change forever on January 4, 2020, as battles move to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield on Nintendo Switch. Players will need to devise new strategies as they incorporate the recently discovered Pokémon from the Galar region into their teams. There's still plenty of time to earn your invitation to the 2020 Pokémon World Championships in—where else—the United Kingdom, so start preparing your team today.

Tournaments in the 2020 Video Game Championships will include the following rules:

- All battles will be Double Battles played in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

- Each player will need their own Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite and a physical or digital version of Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield to compete.

- Pokémon will need to have the Galar symbol, showing they were caught in the Galar region.

- All Pokémon from the Galar Regional Pokédex will be permitted except for Mythical Pokémon and certain Legendary Pokémon.

- All Pokémon will be set to Lv. 50, including Pokémon below Lv. 50.

- Duplicate Pokémon will not be allowed.

- Duplicate held items will not be allowed.

- Each battle will begin with a 90-second Team Preview phase.

- Players will have 7 minutes of Your Time, 45 seconds of Move Time, and (now returning to the VGC) 15 minutes of Game Time in each battle.

Additional restrictions apply to Pokémon that are capable of Gigantamaxing. While such Pokémon are very rare, there are sometimes opportunities to find them more frequently. For instance, from Friday, November 15, 2019, until early January 2020, players are more likely to encounter Gigantamax Drednaw in Pokémon Sword Max Raid Battles, Gigantamax Corviknight in Pokémon Shield Max Raid Battles, and Gigantamax Butterfree in Max Raid Battles for either game. The list of species permitted to Gigantamax will expand every few months based on events in which these Pokémon become more common. The Play! Pokémon VG Rules and Formats document on the Play! Pokémon Rules & Resources page will be updated every few months to indicate when these Pokémon are permitted for use. Pokémon capable of Gigantamaxing are not legal until they are included in the Play! Pokémon VG Rules and Formats document.

As of January 4, 2020, the following are the only Pokémon with the Gigantamax Factor that are permitted to compete: Butterfree. Corviknight, Drednaw, Centiskorch, Meowth, Pikachu, Eevee, Snorlax, Sandaconda, Charizard (only permitted with the Ability Blaze).

Battles in the Video Game Championships will switch to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield in just a few weeks, on January 4, 2020, so make sure to prepare your team. Check out the Event Locator to find an event near you, and start your trek toward the Pokémon World Championships today!
