Remasters of No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle available now on Switch

No more waiting!

Torrance, Calif. – October 28, 2020 – Following this morning’s Nintendo Direct Mini reveal, XSEED Games, the independent-minded publishing brand of Marvelous USA, Inc., surprised fans with the North American launch of remastered versions of No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. The stylish cult classics from the imaginative mind of SUDA51 were previously released for the Nintendo Wii™ system in 2008 and 2010 respectively. Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. and Marvelous Inc., both titles are now available for the Nintendo Switch™ system digitally via the Nintendo eShop in North America. To celebrate the return of these beloved titles, XSEED Games is running a 10% launch discount off the $19.99 price for each game through November 14. The remastered titles feature a host of enhancements including HD textures, improved system font, additional language support, and more.

In No More Heroes, Travis Touchdown starts off as the #11 ranked assassin in the United Assassins Association (UAA), and with his trusty beam katana must face off against the world’s top 10 assassins. He rides the streets of Santa Destroy on his signature motorbike, the Schpeltiger, and packs an arsenal of pro-wrestling moves honed from years of watching wrestlers power bomb and body slam each other. It’s a long way to the top, but the all-American otaku won’t stop until he’s the #1 assassin in the world, baby!

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle takes place three years after Travis achieves his goal of being the #1 assassin in the UAA. However, time has not been kind to him, and he finds himself falling down the ranks to #51. Adding to his problems is Skelter Helter, another assassin who has sworn revenge on Travis for the death of his brother. With his trusty beam katanas in-hand for twice the hacking and slashing, and teamed up with his allies Shinobu and Henry Cooldown, Travis is on a mission to reclaim his #1 position and fend off new challengers. An otaku at heart though, there’s always time for retro 8-bit minigames to help him earn some money and power up!

Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. and Marvelous Inc. and published by XSEED Games in North America on the Nintendo Switch™ system, the remastered versions of No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle are available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop priced at $19.99 each with a 10% launch discount through November 14. Both titles have been rated “M” for Mature on Nintendo Switch by the ESRB.

Suda51 gives a first look at in-game footage of No More Heroes 3 by posting a photo of a 'Rick and Morty' Mr. Meeseeks figurine

Look at me!

Announced at E3 of last year, No More Heroes 3 has been an anticipated Switch release for quite some time now. Planned for launch later in 2020, our first look at gameplay footage comes to us by a quite unusual reveal method.

Director Suda51 took to Twitter to share a picture of a Mr. Meeseeks figurine, quoting the Adult Swim series Rick and Morty with the caption "I'm Mr. Meeseeks! Look at meee!" Behind the fan-favorite blue creature, shows a slightly out-of-focus screenshot of some in-game footage for No More Heroes 3.

A few cinematic trailers have already been released for the game, so hopefully a full in-game reveal is not too far off. This news article has quite the interesting headline...

New concept art released for 'No More Heroes 3', Bayonetta designer has redesigned 'Kimmy Howell'

Alongside the announcement of a new horror game being developed by Suda51 and Swery65, a few more details have been released for the anticipated third-installment in the No More Heroes franchise, No More Heroes 3. Take a look at some of the concept art released for the game, including a redesign of Kimmy Howell from No More Heroes 2, designed by Mari Shimazaki, the artist behind Bayonetta.

Above, you can view the newly designed college-graduate version of Kimmy Howell. Below, is what the character looked like in No More Heroes 2.

Three new forms of Destroyman were also revealed. Destroyman - Mass Produced, Destroyman - Version T, and Final Destroyman. According to Suda, Final Destroyman will be saved for No More Heroes 4.

Josh Keaton and Jennifer Hale will continue their voice acting positions for the characters.

New horror game in developement from Suda51 and Swery65, something "light and easy to play"

Hotel Barcelona?

Suda51 (creator of No More Heroes) and Swery65 (Deadly Premonition) both made an appearance on IGN Japan to discuss plans of an upcoming horror collaboration title, 'Hotel Barcelona'. Final details have not been decided, but they both have been discussing working on a project together since 2018. Most of their ideas were forgotten after getting drunk, so the recent stream was a way to force the two developers to discuss some ideas.

The current concept for the game is about a magazine journalist visiting a modern new hotel, ensuing horror throughout. "Each [room] which represents a different person, or a different dimension, or a different look at what happens in this period of time." Nothing about the release is set-in-stone yet, as the translator clarified, "Don't take this for the final word on anything, please."

Both 'Siren' for the PlayStation 2, and projects from American filmmaker, David Lynch, are said to be inspirations. Suda51 and Swery65 texted the director of Siren, Keiichiro Toyama, asking on the spot if he would help make the game. After deciding they wanted his involvement, they quickly received a solidified yes!

Suda came up with the title for the game, Hotel Barcelona, just 30 minutes before the stream aired. However, it's likely this won't be the final name for the project, based on him later changing his mind about where the game could take place. While his initial plan was for you to visit Barcelona, he said Tokyo, South Africa, or Venezuela are other possibilities for the game's location.

Devolver Digital are in talks with the two developers about helping to publish the title, reportedly offering around one million USD for production. Hotel Barcelona will be an indie release, and not developed by a AAA studio.

The upcoming horror title will be "light and easy to play", and the Switch will very likely be one of the platforms for release. Next week, more concepts will be thought of from Swery, and a logo will be designed by Suda. Hotel Barcelona certainly seems like something we should keep our eye on!
