Past and Present Collide in Time-Bending New Mortal Kombat 11 Story Trailer, Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs and Erron Black Playable

Three more unfortunate souls join the tournament

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios today released the new Mortal Kombat 11 Story Trailer, introducing an original, time-bending narrative that continues the franchise’s epic saga. In Mortal Kombat 11, Raiden’s defeat of the evil Elder God, Shinnok, has drawn the ire of Kronika and upset her desired balance between good and evil. To restore stability in the realms, Kronika has only one option – rewind time to its beginning and restart history.

Through the immersive story mode, different eras of the rich Mortal Kombat history collide as players take on the role of a variety of past and present characters who must join forces to defeat Shao Khan’s Outworld armies and solve the temporal crisis at stake.

Also revealed today as the latest playable characters are Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs and Erron Black.

· Cassie Cage, the commander of an elite Special Forces unit and daughter of the iconic duo, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage, employs her lethal fighting skills to win every battle, with a relentless drive to measure up to her parents’ legacy. Additional gameplay featuring Cassie Cage will be showcased today, March 6, at 3:00 p.m. CST, during this week’s Kombat Kast on the NetherRealm Twitch channel.

· Jacqui Briggs, a competitive fighter trained in kickboxing and martial arts, follows in the footsteps of her father, Jax Briggs, as a member of the Special Forces. She believes her duty is to protect Earthrealm and her family, no matter the risk.

· Erron Black is a thrill-seeking outlaw hooked on the adrenaline of chasing his own pursuits. Black is a skilled crack shot selling his services to the highest bidder while dressed in classic western Outworld attire.

Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs and Erron Black join the growing roster of playable Mortal Kombat 11 fighters, alongside Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Skarlet, Baraka, Geras, Kano, D'Vorah, Kabal, Jade and Johnny Cage.

Mortal Kombat 11 - New Kano gameplay coming later today

Keep a laser-focus on today's presentation

Kano has already been announced for Mortal Kombat 11, but we're going to get a much better look at the character later today. A Mortal Kombat 11 'Kombat Kast' presentation is set for 4 PM EST today, and Kano will be front-and-center for some gameplay footage. Remember, the presentation is also going to reveal yet another character joining the roster, so that makes two reasons to tune in later today!

Another Mortal Kombat 11 character will be revealed tomorrow

Still not Shaggy...

NetherRealm Studios has been revealing characters for Mortal Kombat 11 via their Kombat Kast live-streams, and they're doing it again tomorrow. Another character is going to be revealed for the roster. I guess we'll find out how true that recent roster leak is!

RUMOR - Mortal Kombat 11 full roster leaked

We've had a Mortal Kombat 11 roster leak rumor before, and it was a bit iffy. Now we have a second leak, and this one is pretty damn believable. You'll see why if you hit the jump, but I'm warning you... If you want to keep things secret for launch, you might not want to have a look.

Mortal Kombat 11 - Jade gameplay and Baraka breakdown

Time to take another look at Jade, who was just revealed for Mortal Kombat 11 today. We also get some footage that gives us a closer look at what Baraka has to offer.

RUMOR - John Cena is causing speculation that he'll be playing Stryker in Mortal Kombat 11

There's a bit of backstory to all this, so please give me a bit to explain. I promise it'll all make sense at the end!

Bosslogic is an artist that has been sharing some interesting Mortal Kombat art lately. Bosslogic has been imagining Mortal Kombat characters portrayed as celebrities. He's had a number of interesting choices along the way, one of which was John Cena. Bosslogic created a piece of art showcasing Cena in the role of Stryker, to which Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon responded by retweeting/saying it was good casting. Everyone thought that was the end of it, and we moved on.

Here's where things get interesting. As you can see above, John Cena has posted another piece of art of him as Stryker. This is a different piece of art from what Bosslogic did. For those who don't know, Cena loves posting up random/cryptic images on his Instagram account. These pictures always apply to something going on in his life, or with people in general. With the posting of this image, either Cena is aware of the chatter from fans about Bosslogic's artwork, or there's something more going on here.

Now let's look back on a comment Ed Boon made a few weeks back about characters in Mortal Kombat 11.

"Our faces, our actors -- we find, you know, real people to scan their entire face. It's not a 3D model, you know sculpting a nose, sculpting a face, stuff like that, it's actually real people. And we have -- I'll tell you this -- we have a huge, huge surprise coming up for a face you're going to see in Mortal Kombat."

Now some might think this pertains to Ronda Rousey, as she was revealed as the voice actor for Sonya Blade. The thing is, that's all that she's providing. A quick look at the character model for Blade shows that Rousey's likeness was not used in-game. That means we're still waiting on the reveal of that 'huge, huge surprise.' With all this evidence floating around, I'm putting my money on Cena!
