Crytek CEO discusses the importance of graphics

"Graphics, whether it's lighting or shadows, puts you in a different emotional context and drives the immersion. And immersion is effectively the number one thing we can use to help you buy into the world." - CEO Cevat Yerli

This discussion came up due to the mention of how some gamers say graphics don't matter. Yerli feels that they really do matter. All I know is, I don't care how gorgeous a game world is. If it's not fun to play and be in, all the pretty visuals won't do squat to keep me there.

Crytek confirmed to be bidding on Darksiders I.P.

"When the Darksiders IP goes up for auction, Crytek will be bidding for it. Not much more to say since the rest is left up to courts and legal shenanigans, but we're all excited at the prospect." - Vigil co-founder Ryan Stefanelli

Why bother to buy unless you had future plans for the brand? Looks like Darksiders might live to see another day!

Crysis 3 was close to launching on Wii U, but EA/Nintendo couldn't strike a deal

A portion of a GameBeat interview with Crytek's Cevat Yerli...

GamesBeat: Is the Wii U from Nintendo even on your radar as far as making games?

Yerli: We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it. But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves — we don’t have a publishing license — Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die.

Crytek wants single-player games to evolve into 'online single player'

“I think the notion of a single-player experience has to go away. However, I’m not saying that there will be no single-player experiences… It could be it’s called Connected Single-Player or Online Single-Player instead. Online and social can reignite single-player in a new type of context and provide benefits that will make you want to be a part of a connected story-mode rather than a disconnected story-mode. Sure, if the technology forces you to play a traditional single-player game online, that doesn’t make sense but if it’s offering actual benefits to be online then you want to be part of it.” - Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli

Why the hell do we need to take single player games online? Oh yeah, because companies want to sell us more stuff, whether we're playing alone or with friends.

Crytek discusses how quickly Crytek USA came together

"He (studio head David Adams) came out the next day. We met, and the day after we were pulling a new studio together called Crytek USA." - Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli

Once again, Crytek not interested in Darksiders 3

"We didn’t want to continue with Darksiders 3, since that doesn’t fit with our strategy. It’s not like we set the team on a specific game concept. They’re actually going to work on what David and the team identifies as what they want to do. Right now, they just know what the strategy of Crytek is and the framework we need to satisfy, but none of that drives what the game is about." - CEO Cevat Yerli

Looks like this might be the end for the Darksiders franchise. I guess time will tell, but as of right now, things are looking bad.

Crytek surprised no one bid on Vigil

"We were surprised when nobody bid on Vigil. We would have liked to have bid, but there were too many unknowns. I thought that maybe we could reconsider bidding, but eventually we decided not to because the projects [the developer was working on] weren't strategically fit for us, but I really liked David [when I talked to him] on the phone. He made a very good impression on me as someone who really cared, someone who is really passionate about what he does, and someone who is passionate about the team he works with." - Crytek's Cevat Yerli

So...Crytek is surprised no one big on Vigil, but they didn't bid on Vigil either. So they were surprised that everyone did the same thing they did?

Crytek details what Vigil will be doing at Crytek US, no plans for Darksiders purchase

"It would be pretty much safe to say that this team will be working on online games...online games and kick-ass triple-A productions. It is going to be quite a significant investment for Crytek over the next five years." - Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli

Yerli also stated that they have no plans to purchase the Darksiders I.P..

Crytek USA includes 35 core Vigil members

Great news for the core team at Vigil. We've already reported the opening of Crytek USA, but now we've learned that 35 core team members at Vigil are part of the group. Great to see such a quick turnaround! The only bit of bad news is that the Darksiders IP is yet to be auctioned off. Will Crytek pick it up?
