Reggie reaches out to Nintendo fan who achieved Eagle Scout status

That Reggie is a class act

Nintendo really does seem to go out of their way for their fans. We all have our gripes about some decisions the company makes, but it's hard to argue that Nintendo isn't always trying to put some smiles on faces. That doesn't just go for the games they put out, but also the fans who contact them.

Redditor Link101700 is a lifelong Nintendo fan, and he also happens to be a newly-recognized Eagle scout. He reached out Nintendo to share news of both details in his life, and believe it or not, Nintendo responded. Not only that, but Reggie himself got involved with the response! I'm sure Reggie is more than happy to respond to letters like this while he still has time left at the company.

Reggie will be leaving the world of Nintendo in April 2019, and fans are still trying to wrap their heads around the news. Some have turned to the world of art to show their appreciation for Nintendo's big guy and all he did. One of the best tributes we've seen comes from the artist above, who shares a timelapse of a fantastic piece of tribute art.

The Rock comments on Reggie's departure from Nintendo, thanks him for 'creating fun'

Okay, I need to know about this connection. How the hell does The Rock know Reggie Fils-Aime?! When did these two meet up?! Are they related somehow, or is this just a work thing? This is two of my favorite hobbies converging! I definitely need some explanation on this!

Thanks to Neverunplaying for the heads up!

Reggie shows some love for a custom amiibo creator

If you follow the amiibo scene closely, you most likely know who Gandakris is. She's been making amazing custom amiibo for awhile now, and she's covered a great number of subjects. That includes Reggie Fils-Aime himself! Gandakris actually sent Reggie one of her custom Reggie amiibo, but she had no idea if the package every made it to his desk.

Turns out she doesn't need to wonder anymore, as the custom amiibo can be spotted behind Reggie's left shoulder! Just one more example of Reggie really showing some love to fans.

Thanks to Sligeach_eire for the heads up!

Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime is retiring, with Doug Bowser (yes, that's his last name) set to replace him as president.

Reggie Fils-Aime shares a heartfelt message with fans following news of his retirement, and industry bigwigs react

Reggie Fils-Aime is retiring in April 2019, as announced earlier today. Following that news, Nintendo has released a special video featuring Reggie himself. Reggie shares a special message with his legion of fans, which you can check out above.

Obviously this news is pretty damn big for not just Nintendo, but the world of gaming in general. Multiple big-name people in the industry have reacted to the news, which we've shared below.

Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime to Retire: Doug Bowser Named New President

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- After more than 15 notable years at Nintendo of America, and nearly 13 as its President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime will retire. His last day with Nintendo will be April 15. Doug Bowser, NOA’s current Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, will then succeed Reggie as President of Nintendo of America.

“I really appreciate everything Reggie has done for Nintendo,” said Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo Co., Ltd. “Inside and outside our company, Reggie is known as an exceptional leader. We are grateful that he is leaving the business in good shape with strong momentum. While we will miss him and we wish him the very best in his retirement, we are also pleased to have such an able successor ready to step into that role. Doug Bowser and the rest of the team will ensure a seamless transition and continued momentum for Nintendo.”

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever,” Fils-Aime said. “It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”

“It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America,” Bowser said. “And rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to evolve and expand our brand, furthering Nintendo’s global mission of creating smiles. There are millions more of those to come.”

Fils-Aime started at Nintendo of America in 2003 as its Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing and became its President and COO in May 2006. His time with Nintendo began during the Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance era. His leadership of Nintendo’s largest territory expanded the audience for Nintendo products as phenomena like Nintendogs, Brain Age, Wii Sports and Wii Fit brought millions of new players to the world of video games. Fils-Aime’s management led to record-breaking sales for products like the Nintendo DS, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch systems. At the same time, he communicated innovative new product features to a mass audience via his strong and affable personality, making him a favorite of media, members of the video game industry and Nintendo fans alike.

During his tenure, Nintendo of America has expanded its physical presence in the U.S., having established a key sales and marketing office in Redwood City, California, and built a new NOA headquarters in Redmond, Washington, that has received awards for its environmentally friendly design.

Bowser is an industry veteran who joined NOA in May 2015 as the Vice President of Sales before being promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing the next year. During his time at NOA, Bowser led the sales and marketing efforts for Nintendo Switch, which became the fastest-selling video game system of this hardware generation through 21 months, according to The NPD Group. Previously, Bowser was an executive with industry powerhouse Electronic Arts, most recently as the company’s Vice President of Global Business Planning. He also worked at Procter & Gamble in various sales leadership roles in Asia, Latin America and the U.S.

Previously unseen footage of Reggie Fils-Aime speaking to media managers during E3 2006 surfaces

Well who's this fresh-faced go-getter?! It's none other than Reggie Fils-Aime, circa 2006! This video was made for media managers as an intro to all the content Nintendo was showing of at E3 2006, which was all about the Wii. Ah, what a time capsule it is.

Reggie discusses what it was like taking the Game Awards stage with Sony's Shawn Layden and Microsoft's Phil Spencer

One of the best moments of this year's Game Awards didn't have anything to do with surprise game reveals. To kick off the show, Reggie Fils-Aime took the stage with Xbox and PlayStation heads Phil Spencer and Shawn Layden. The three came together to celebrate gaming as an industry, and show off a united front for the industry we love. In an interview with IGN, Reggie discusses what that moment was like.

“Here's what's so important, from my perspective. Our industry is the most vibrant across all of entertainment. The opportunity to speak to all the players and to deliver a message of community, a message of inclusion, a message that all of us are looking to immerse ourselves in the best content, the best entertainment available today. That was a really important message. And to drive home a thought of community and inclusion, that in many regards was carried throughout the entire show. I thought was really positive.”
