Ubisoft Spain says Beyond Good and Evil 2 coming to Switch (UPDATE)

UPDATE - There it goes, just as we suspected. Now we go back to feeling sad...

UPDATE - It appears that whoever is running the social media account has simply hit the Tweet button for the linked site, which spit out the text. That said, they still tweeted it on the official account and haven't removed it yet. Let's see where we go from here.

I mean, this is a verified account. It's right there, as plain as day. I still don't believe it, but I'll pretend it's true for now! I'll just live in bliss until the tweet is deleted/retracted.

Michel Ancel says Beyond Good & Evil 2 is being made to "run on many platforms"

This info comes from Ancel himself, and follows up on the statement earlier today, which said that there are no locked-in platforms for Beyond Good and Evil 2 yet.

“Today there are no exclusive things. It is very open. We have no decision. We make it so it can run on many platforms.”

With this statement, at least there's some hope for a Switch version. It might be a bit more slim than I would like, but it's there.

Ancel says platforms undecided for Beyond Good & Evil 2

According to Michel Ancel, platformers aren't yet decided for Beyond Good & Evil 2. With that said, the dev room for the game has a few features that you can sift through, and in there you find mention of PS4/XB1/PC. Retailers have started taking preorders on those versions as well. There's no mention of Switch anywhere at this time.

Michel Ancel shares more insight into Beyond Good and Evil 2's creation and dev struggles

Coming from a Kotaku interview with Michel Ancel...

- work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been going on since the end of Rayman Legends
- the game is a long ways off from release
- Ancel calls it “a very serious development for Ubisoft.”
- the dev team wanted to focus on interplanetary travel
- this was supposed to be an element of the first game
- the horsepower of today's consoles is making that original vision a reality
- with that said, the team is still figurine out how to handle the sheer scope/size of planets and solar systems
- challenges also come from behavioral AIs, systems, and giant spaceships crashing on big planets
- the sequel was never cancelled, thanks to Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot and Serge Hascoet,
- Guillemot & Hascoet want Ubisoft to create things that have never been created before, which is why the game has survived

The following comes from Michel Ancel...

"What is certain is that bge2 is a fantastic project. Space, planets, travelling at 15 000 km / h ... It's something crazy. All of this can run on current consoles, and it works. - original BG&E2 started in 2007 and was abandoned in 2009, at Michel Ancel's request
- work began again in 2012-2013
- Ancel feels like he still needs three to four years to finish it, but even he isn't sure about that estimate
- BG&E2 is an open-world
- the heart of the game is the "civilization"
- the game will talk about conspiracy and the human aspect with lots of surprising characters
- right now they are working to create the game world
- no release date yet determined, but significant progress has been made
- Ancel is a bit scared that he might have to cancel the project if Vivendi buys Ubisoft

Mr. Ancel, what are you doing to us? Beyond Good and Evil fans have been tormented for so long. We really can't take it anymore, and now you share a tease like this?! The image seems to show a young version of Pey'j, a main character in the original game, but as a child. This image was also shared without any explanation as to where it comes from. Oh man, I can't help but get a bit more hyped...but I really can't take anymore heartbreak!

Ubisoft on Michel Ancel & an unannounced game, challenge of Beyond Good & Evil 2

A portion of a GameSpot interview with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot...

GS: Michel Ancel is here today. My first thought was, "What is he doing here?" because he's still an Ubi employee but only seems to be working on Wild, a game developed by his independent studio.

YG: He's doing two things. He has one game that he is doing as an independent and he's also working on a game with Ubisoft.

GS: An unannounced game?

YG: Yes. An unannounced game.

GS: You're trying to create positive sentiment for Ubisoft right now and surely the best way to get gamers on side is to talk about games fans have been eager to hear about, like Beyond Good & Evil 2 or perhaps a new Prince of Persia…

YG: It's not only the desires that are important, it's can our team come up with something that will be a revolution. You don't just want Beyond Good & Evil 2, you want a fantastic Beyond Good & Evil 2. You don't want us to bring it back as something that isn't perfect. That's a challenge we're facing; we have to come back with something crazy and something that will be great.
