New Super Mario Bros. 2 sells over a million copies in Japan

Media Create is reporting that New Super Mario Bros. 2 has sold over a million copies in Japan. The company reported that since it's July 28th release the game has sold 1,068,878 units. Over a million units in five weeks is pretty good. Super Mario 3D Land took eight to sell over a million.

I don't think these numbers include the digital download sales of the game. If not, I wonder how much higher the numbers would be if included.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 - review

A portion of the gamrreview review...

If there is one thing that Nintendo has always delivered on in its Mario games, it's top notch level design, a fact that is well on display here. You simply will not find such well designed levels in any other franchise, especially on a portable console. The quality is definitely there, and the game’s 80-odd levels are all imaginative and don’t often task you with doing the same thing twice.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 - review

A portion of a GamesRadar review...

"At this point, it’d be very difficult for Nintendo to get a Mario game horribly wrong. The formula has been so thoroughly refined that there’s never anything particularly disastrous about any given game. It’s easy to argue that with New Super Mario Bros. 2, Nintendo succeeds once again in making a classically great Mario game that more people than die-hard Mario fans can enjoy. "

New Super Mario Bros. 2 had a different original title

During a recent Iwata Asks, it was revealed that the original title for New Super Mario Bros. 2 was going to be "New Super Mario Bros. Gold". Not a big difference, but still interesting.

I almost prefer the Gold title. To me it helps create a sense of new. Instead of slapping the standard number for the sequel on the box. What do you all think? Which title do you prefer?
