Looking good, Crash!

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time was revealed for Switch just a few weeks back, and now it's almost time for launch! The game is coming on March 12th, 2021, and today brings us another batch of screens from the Switch version. The gallery above certainly makes this look like quite the impressive port!

Crash Bandicoot: On The Run not completely ruled out for Switch

On the run to Switch?

While Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is a lock for Switch, there's another Crash game in the works that's only mobile for the time being. Crash Bandicoot: On The Run is heading to mobile devices in March 2021, but some people are hoping it could come over to Switch. There's nothing official right now, but it does seem there's a very slight chance.

In an interview with PocketGamer, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run creative lead Stephen Jarrett was asked about the game coming to Switch. The idea wasn't ruled out completely, but Jarrett did say he thought people would, "rather play the games on the platforms they were designed for." Again, seems like a long shot, but if people speak up about a port, maybe opinion of the devs could be swayed.

Crash Bandicoot 4 framerate and resolution on Switch detailed, devs discuss the "big undertaking" of the port

A Crash course in tech specs

Many expected Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time to come to the Switch, but it's nice to finally have that confirmed. Activision officially announced the game yesterday, and it's coming out March 12th, 2021.

Want to know a little more about the tech specs for the title? Nintendo Life spoke to Toys for Bob Creative Producer Lou Studdert to get resolution and framerate info for the Switch port, and it's certainly no slouch. The game will be 1080p and 30fps docked, while handheld will be 720p and 30fps as well.

That's obviously pretty impressive, and it took a bit of technical know-how from the dev team to make that happen. Studdert elaborated on the work that went into the Switch version.

I mean it's the same challenge as bringing it to any console, honestly. There's just so much content in the game. There are so many levels, there are so many different ways of playing, there's all these different things to make sure work. So for our engineers, our artists, our QA team, just making sure that it's a seamless transition, and it performs as well as it did on the consoles we originally launched with. It's a big undertaking.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled free trial event for Switch Online members also available in Europe

Strap in, Europe

Whenever there's a free game trial for Switch Online members, we usually see it announced in Japan first, then Europe, and finally North America. This time around, things are going in reverse!

North America was the first region to announce the free trial of Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled for Switch Online members, and the opportunity is yet to be announced anywhere else. That said, we know it's being offered in Europe, as the official game page for Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled has a very tiny blurb for it. Looks like Nintendo of Europe will be announcing this on their social channels any minute now.

For those who missed the news yesterday, starting Dec. 30th, 2020 and running to Jan. 5th, 2021, Switch Online members will be able to play Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled in its entirety. This includes the online component as well! Once Jan. 5th, 2021 comes and goes, access to the game will be removed. There's usually a sale for the game during these trial events as well, so be on the lookout for that.
