Games and sequels

Why do you think Video Games are seemingly unique in entertainment in that sequels are desired/consumed many times more than in other mediums such as movies? In games the sequels can continue almost indefinitely, whereas in movies a trilogy is often the maximum that quality can be achieved, with very few sequels better than the originals. Is it because movies are mainly story based, the ability of games to change styles, the gameplay, or the ability to write your own story??

The main feature of a game is the gameplay, which has way more longevity than any given storyline.

I guess you could say it's like a sports game where you have certain rules and then play in worlds designed around them.
