So, been thinking about the
Switch Lite not switching... Ever since it was announced, and even though everyone knew it would be a dedicated handheld before the announcement, the common complaint is that it can't switch and thereby doesn't deserve the name "Switch".
BUT THE NAME MAKES NO SENSE! IT DOESN'T SWITCH!
I've been mulling this over for a while and I think I've come to a conclusion:
I believe that because of everything missing from the Switch Lite (T.V. play, HD Rumble, LABO support, kickstand[j/k], etc) that this definition is more befitting-
noun: a slender flexible whip, rod, or twig.
verb: to strike or beat with or as if with a switch
The two halves of this old school punishment was 1, to have to cut or find the switch you would be struck with and 2, to be struck with said switch. If your folks were real mean and the switch broke upon the first strike, you'd have to go get a bigger one.
Confused? In today's world of not hittting your kids as punishment or, hell, not hardly punishing a kid at all, buying them a Switch Lite might make them wonder, "why, mom/dad? did i do something wrong?"
TL;DR it's the definition of the word switch that denotes punishment.
