Japanese commercial shared for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's Switch remake
The RPG remake comes out later this month
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is getting a lavish Switch remake in just a couple weeks, and marketing is ramping up. You can watch the first commercial shared in Japan to see 30 seconds of the game in motion.
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the nefarious X-Nauts are after the treasure behind the Thousand-Year Door! With a map from Princess Peach, and the help of a few locals, Mario journeys through a colorful world made of paper to find them first. To prevail in this quest, you’ll have to level up Mario and his friends, master timing-based attacks and badges to impress the audience on the stage of combat, and make use of all the abilities that come with being made of paper, like folding into a plane to cross big gaps or turning sideways to slip through narrow openings. The GameCube classic finds new life on Switch next month, on May 23rd, 2024.
The second wave of Endless Ocean: Luminous icons has been added to Nintendo Switch Online
New waves will release throughout the month of May
Throughout the month of May, Nintendo will be releasing Endless Ocean: Luminous icons to celebrate the release of the new title. The second wave is available now, with 2 more waves to come; one per week throughout May.
This wave only features character and background combo elements, each for 10 platinum points a piece. The current wave will be available until May 15th.
The Nintendo Switch is losing its Twitter/X integration next month
Friend requests via social media are also going away
The Nintendo Switch will be losing its Twitter/X functionality on June 10th, 2024, the company announced, ironically via Twitter.
This’ll be affecting sharing posts in Splatoon 2, and, to a lesser extent, Splatoon 3, as well. Friend requests through social media will also be made unavailable. Here’s the full statement:
- The feature for posting screenshots and videos to X (formerly Twitter) from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu will become unavailable.
- While posting screenshots and videos to Facebook will continue to be available, this service may also be discontinued at a later date.
- The ability to post Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu to Smash World, in the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app, will also become unavailable.
- Posting features in the Nintendo Switch title Splatoon 3 will be adjusted. When posting from the mailbox in Splatsville, Inkopolis Plaza, or Inkopolis Square, you will no longer be able to post to X (formerly Twitter) or Facebook; the data will be sent directly to Nintendo servers. This change will allow users to make posts without one of these social media accounts, but images posted by players younger than 13 will not be visible to other players.
- The image created for the post will be copied to the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu. Images in the Album can be transferred to a smart device wirelessly or to a PC via USB cable.
- Posting features in the Nintendo Switch title Splatoon 2 will be adjusted. You will no longer be able to post to X (formerly Twitter) from the mailbox in Inkopolis Square. The characters that appear and posts that are displayed in the Square will be replaced by data already prepared within the game software.
- The feature for sending friend requests to social media friends via the Friend Suggestions menu on My Page, in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu, will no longer be available.
- You can continue to use the friend suggestions feature from smart devices, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U.
Unfortunately, it looks like sharing your Switch screenshots will be a lot harder for a lot of users. Hopefully some Twitter integration still comes to the next console.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now Nintendo's best-selling game ever
That is, ignoring the technicality of Wii Sports
Nintendo recently dumped a load of new sales data in a recent investors’ meeting, and with it came the revelation that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is not just the best-selling Switch game, but the best-selling Nintendo game of all time, with one caveat. Wii Sports has technically sold more, though, as that game came packaged with most Wii consoles, it’s hard to say that really counts.
An enhanced port of the Wii U’s Mario Kart 8, Deluxe launched on Switch around the console’s launch and went on to sell over 70 million copies, just shy of Wii Sports’ inflated 82 million sales. While it seems unlikely, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe may just become the uncontested number one, depending on how much longer the Switch lasts.
Another Crab's Treasure hits 30k sold in its first day (UPDATE)
Plenty of scuttlebutt for this one
Another Crab’s Treasure made its way to Switch today after being revealed roughly one year ago. The unique title clearly caught a lot of attention upon reveal, and many have been waiting patiently to pick the game up. That includes a rush of people who grabbed the game on day-one, as first day sales have surpassed 30k units worldwide.
Another Crab’s Treasure is a soulslike adventure set in a crumbling underwater world plagued by a mysterious curse. As Kril the hermit crab, you’ll need to wear the trash around you as shells to withstand attacks from enemies many times your size. Embark on an epic treasure hunt to buy back your repossessed shell, and discover the dark secrets behind the polluted ocean.
Along with the reveal of 30k units sold in 24 hours, developer Aggro Crab thanked fans for playing the game and said they were happy to see everyone having fun (but not too much, it IS a souls game).
In the undersea society of Another Crab’s Treasure, trash is not only a way of life, but a valuable resource, used for everything from fashion to firearms. But with the presence of trash comes a mysterious infection known as the Gunk, which could spell doom for the entire ocean.
UPDATE: A new sales tally has been shared. We now know that after being on sale for 4 days, Another Crab’s Treasure sold 100k units combined across all platforms. Looks like this one’s got some real (sea) legs!
UPDATE 2 The little game that could just keeps going. Another Crab’s Treasure has now reached 150k units sold across all platforms combined. There’s no doubt this game is going to keep racking up sales as the weeks roll on, and we’ll keep a lookout for future sales updates.
Warframe has been updated to Ver. 35.5.11. You can see the patch notes for this update below.

- Fixed cases of Protea’s Temporal Anchor rewind being interrupted by enemies in her path, which was canceling the restoring of Energy, Ammo, Shields, Health, and Combo Counter.
- Fixed getting pulled out of the Void Angel’s Ethereal Plane as Protea in Zariman missions if Temporal Anchor is cast before entering it.
- Fixed the Bronco “Dizzying Rounds” Augment Mod enabling finishers on enemies that are not intended to be vulnerable to finishers (i.e. Acolytes, Whispers and Demolishers).
- Fixed issue where a Client selecting a Relic using the controller binding for “Equip For Mission” would unintentionally start the Void Fissure mission before everyone has equipped a Relic.
- Fixed cases where falling off the platforms in the Mastery Rank 25 test would not teleport you back to a platform.
- Fixes towards Grineer enemies getting stuck outside of the starting area during the Awakening Quest.
- Fixed Protea Prime’s Blaze Artillery and Dispensary not using Prime FX on TennoGen skins with the Prime Toggle enabled. Also fixes her Blaze Artillery and Dispensary not detaching from her back when cast on TennoGen skins with Prime Toggle enabled.
- Fixed Protea Prime’s Shield Satellites having two additional blue burst particle VFX, which could cause performance issues. Also fixed Shield Satellites missing their impact sound FX.
- Fixed Temporal Prime Ephemera’s “orbs” not using player selected colors in mission.
- Fixed darker skin tones having lighting issues (overly glossy) on Operator.
- Fixed the Protea Prime Access Packs missing localized text in the in-game Market.

Devolver Digital co-founder says Nintendo fans more open to "interesting concepts and gameplay"
Time to path ourselves on the back
Devolver Digital is one of the biggest indie publishers out there, and they’ve got a serious collection of hits under their belt. If there’s any studio out there that knows indie gaming and has their fingers on the pulse of indie fans, it would be Devolver.
In a recent interview with Games Industry, Devolver Digital co-founder Nigel Lowrie says he’s heard about indies skipping the Xbox and PlayStation side of things with their efforts, and it’s all because those audiences don’t seem to be all that interested in what indies are offering. According to Lowrie, the situation is quite different with Nintendo.
**“They’ve (Nintendo) created an ecosystem – and therefore a user base – that is really open to interesting concepts and gameplay ideas. The PlayStation and Xbox user, for as long as I’ve been doing this… there’s a lot of people that still like indie games, don’t get me wrong. Cult of the Lamb has done very well on those platforms. But I think the large majority of those people buy those platforms to show off what they can really do. They’re looking at Destiny. They’re looking at Helldivers. They’re looking at Starfield. They definitely push those.
I think the platforms themselves all are really strong believers in indie games. They really do push them. I think on the other end, the consumers – as big as they might be – there’s still a smaller portion than we would like on Xbox and PlayStation that are open to looking at a pixel art platformer and going, ‘I’ll give this a shot.’“**
It’s wild to think that Nintendo sits at the forefront of indie gaming nowadays, at least when it comes to consoles. Nintendo started this push back in the Wii days, and they’ve only grown efforts since. Now indies are a huge part of Nintendo’s gaming catalog, and it’s clear Nintendo fans are just as engaged with that side of the industry.
Nintendo looking to add 3 more women to board of directors
Ladies, do I have at least 3 numbers right?
Nintendo shared a wealth of information during their fiscal year 2023/2024 report, giving us all sorts of sales updates, install base figures, revenue data and more. Turns out they also have some plans to expand their board of directors with 4 new members, 3 of them being women.
Nintendo has said multiple times in the past that they’re looking to bring more women into the fold, and they’ve slowly but surely been doing that. In the latest example of Nintendo staying true to their word, the company has nominated 3 women to join their board of directors. If all is approved, the trio will join on June 27th, 2024.
The lineup of new board members includes Miyoko Demay, Eiko Osawa and Keiko Akashi. You can see their professional/corporate history in the breakdown below.

Super Famicom prototype pulls in $3 million bid via online auction only to mysteriously vanish
Are Nintendo ninjas to blame?
A holy grail of Nintendo collectibles made its way online via Yahoo! Auctions Japan, only to mysteriously disappear a day later.
Out of nowhere, a listing for a Super Famicom prototype made its way onto Yahoo! Auctions Japan, and it instantly garnered all sorts of attention. This is the kind of Nintendo collectible that you rarely ever see, as it’s not even clear how it made it from Nintendo’s inner sanctum to the public’s hands. Obviously Nintendo doesn’t want it out there, which only adds to its rarity, mystique, and of course, value.
The major differences in this Super Famicom prototype versus the final design are the red power button, a headphone jack and a volume dial on the side, and an expansion port on the front. It certainly would have been nice to have that headphone jack/volume dial on the final console, but for whatever reason, Nintendo decided to ditch those ideas for the retail release.
The Yahoo! Auction for this prototype managed to climb ridiculously high in a very short amount of time. Within 24 hours of posting, the auction had reached an astronomical $3 million bid…and then poof, it was gone. We have no word on why the listing was yanked, nor do we know if it’ll return. Perhaps the powers that be had the listing pulled, or maybe the person selling the prototype got cold feet. Whatever the reason, one major piece of Nintendo history has up and vanished, and we can only hope it pops up again soon.
