GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Will Vita sales be painted as poorly as 3DS?

ENDOFDAYTHOUGHTS 01

The Christmas spirit is in the air around here. I wasn't feeling it until this week, but now that my wallet is hurting, I can't help but feel that the holiday is almost here. No matter who you are or what you celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful week! See you in a few, short hours.

I'm sure most of you know that the PS Vita launched in Japan last week. While the rest of the world still has some time to wait for the system to launch, we can still watch the scene in Japan and speculate all we want. Of course, those that follow sales numbers were dying to see what numbers the system would put up when compared to 3DS.

In its first two days on the market, the PS Vita managed to sell 321K units. Is that a respectable number for a two-day total? I honestly don't know...and it's all going to depend on who you talk to. The thing is, this number will show us where the real hypocrites are coming from.

Why do I say that? Well, the 3DS managed to sell 371K units in its first two days of sale in Japan. Yes, the 3DS managed to outsell the PS Vita in its first two days on the market. You know, the system that many still say is doomed? Now the Vita has posted a poorer number, and I am very interested in seeing how people react.

I think we should at least wait for first week sales to see how things go, but I really do look forward to hearing what analysts and industry members have to say. Will the sales continue to trend below the 3DS' history in Japan? Will that lead to talk of the platform being doomed? We'll have to go back and match up industry quotes once they start pouring in.

Do I want the PS Vita to fail? Not in the slightest. I am going to pick one up on day one launch in the states. With that said, I want to see what sort of hypocritical statements are made as the Vita starts its life. Will analysts that called for the 3DS' failure say the same of Vita? We'll have to keep on those sales trends to see where they match up with 3DS, and then see just who is saying what.
