I'm thinking we'll only see the Wii U version as well. Most people who want Dragon Quest X are hardcore Nintendo fans and will buy the Wii U upon release and will ditch the Wii itself. Yeah they can buy the Wii version of DQX and play it on Wii U, but why do that when you can get it in glorious HD?
I'm certain that the Wii U is the Wii game. Maybe with just HD slapped on. After all, it's supposed to be cross platform play right? That wouldn't be possible if there's a huge difference between games.

That's will be the biggest selling point of the Wii U version. I'm getting Wii U no matter what. Therefore it'd only make sense to get the HD version.

It's certainly possible. A lot of the time, the game server dictates what you're looking at at any given time, and the game itself loads up what you're looking up. It's why when you're waiting for monster pops in games like FFXI, other players sometimes load monsters sooner or later than you. As a result, having the models, cities, etc. have a nicer, more HD look on the Wii U is hardly an impossibility, and crossplatform play wouldn't be a real issue. It's just that they'll be looking at the SD version of the monster you're fighting, and you'll be looking at the HD version of the monster you're fighting.
Anyway, it's a real shame this won't come out over here, since Squenix's real MMO shy after 14 failed. In fact, honestly, I'm amazed this was even made. I guess it was green-lit and past the point of no return before FF14 got finished.
This had to be in development before FFXIV was released, yeah. It does put things in a weird position. That said, they have a team furiously working to redo XIV right now, so maybe that will be less of a disaster eventually.
For an MMORPG running on the Wii hardware, I still think this game looks good. As for the WiiU version, Japan will probably get it before the end of 2012. The soonest US will find out if we're getting it will be sometime in 2013.

FF14 was outsourced though.
Who'd they outsource it to? I hadn't heard about that. Definitely interesting. I've got my own theories about why and how FFXIV failed, but there's facts and theories and it's just a big mess. A real shame, too, 'cause I really wanted to play it, but it just seems to stray so far from what I loved about FFXI.

It was outsourced to China. It's also something that Square Enix has kept very "hush hush", but some of the problems with the game that people had (i.e. characters get tired and gain less exp) were in place because of Chinese laws regarding MMOs. The changing that is taking place now is not outsourced, and that's the reason why the game will probably end up being much better then its initial release.

same here. It's clear FFXI is done with major expansions now, so here's hoping XIV's "2.0" turns out well and people who want to can continue to play a good FF online.
I wonder when we'll see Wii u footage / screens
@LegendofSantiago
I know right?, I was really disappointed we didn't get a trailer of the Wii U version at E3.
Is this making launch?
This one is for Wii, not Wii U. We haven't seen or heard anything about the Wii U version. Sadly :/
@kdognumba1 They promised around launch. We'll see if that comes true...
@Meelow100@Battlestriker123
DQX will likely only ship in Japan this year [both or one versions], let's be honest.
I think that if we get Dragon Quest X at all it will only be the Wii U version.

"expecting an announcement of a DQ game before it's launched in japan for a few months"
C'mon guys you know better

This game was not announced for WiiU launch. It was announce for an undefined date after the release the Wii version. It could be launch or not.
