Operation Zero pushes for localization of Fatal Frame 2 in North America

After hearing comments from Xseed concerning Nintendo's non-motivation from Operation Rainfall, it's hard for me to find reasons to support fan movements. If the Big N isn't going to be swayed even the tiniest bit by fans calling out, what's the point?

Still, that doesn't mean we can't try, try again. That's the case with Operation Zero, which is out to push for a localization of Fatal Frame 2 in the states. Europe and Japan got the game, so why can't we!? Details on the campaign are below, as well as the official Facebook page.

Good mornin' all you Fatal Framers out there, wanted to let you know we are going to be commencing another write-in/call-in to Nintendo of America, this time due at the end of July. To be specific, the due dates will be:

East Coasters - July 25th
MidWesterners - July 26th
West Coasters - July 27th

For those of you just joining us, the address is:

Nintendo of America
c/o Reginald Fils-Aime
4600 150th Ave. NE
Redmond, WA 98052

The phone number is:
1-800-255-3700 option 0 then option 5.

This isn't part of any phase, but something in the interim we all can do to keep the pressure on Nintendo of America. We can't rest on our laurels as I said before, we have to keep active and show that we want this game and future Fatal Frame titles in this series. - J.T.

Operation Rainfall really left a good impression on people, huh?

Coming from an EarthBound fan, this rarely works. Even if an enormous amount of people called in it's not worth the time and money that localization and advertisement requires, especially when other games make so much more.

If the game has a big enough audience then it will come. Xenoblade and last story did, so they came. Pandora's tower kind of bombed in europe, it probably wont' come here sadly. This game...it might, it'll take a while though.

Part of me is happy that Operation Rainfall wasn't motivational towards it, but that is because a lot of people with Operation Rainfall were flooding off-topic stories with "That's good and all, but Xenoblade plz" making them seem like spoiled brats at times...

I'm okay with fan movements, if they didn't get like that!

@LegendofSantiago

But Fatal Frame is an established series that was doing just fine before Nintendo touched it.

And they're going to use Spirit Camera against it when it wasn't even a real game in the series.

Granted, if it did well, it's possible, but it's annoying because the series always got "Okay sales", and I don't think they ever broke a million (I can't remember) in Japan or America, but it has a large fanbase and sold more in North America than Japan IIRC.

It sucks because this is a series that I had really been into and now I can't play the games because Nintendo's hellbent on not putting things out that won't hit millions of copies. They should not have bought the series. I'm so mad that they did.

@ RMC
I still surprised people believe that when Nintendo of Europe itself recognized the efforts for these games that they released this coin set featured on this very site!

PS. I'am more than certain even tho It hasn't been offically annouced that this game most likely will be sold in USA. Regardless of this operation. But I could be wrong, but considering NA is lacking titles for 4 Quater, I would assume that they would push this for an October release for halloween. I think they did that for the 3DS version for Friday, 13 so its a guess. They should really push for double release tho, Fatal Frame 2: Crimsion butterfly & Fatal Frame 4: Mask of the lunar Eclipse! >X3

I can say with pretty much certainty that Rainfall, combined with critical reception, impacted Xenoblade's release here given how half-assed the NA release was.

Xseed goes after obscure stuff anyway, so getting The Last Story was probably something they'd have tried to do anyway. That having been said, I doubt we're getting Pandora's Tower, and I doubt we're getting this, Another Code, Zangeki, or any of the other examples people like throwing out.

Earthbound issues are completely different from these other games, it cant come over due to licences issues which will have to deal with cort stuff, or getting the creator to change things. The other games are not coming over because NOA just doesnt wanna bother bringing them over.

I'm curious about something vaguely related to whether or not Operation Rainfall brought about the release of Xenoblade / The Last Story...

Can anyone who's well-versed name a handful of games released in North America that are virtually identical to their PAL counterparts (including British voice-actors and references (e.g. "trousers" versus "pants")?

I can't think of a first party Nintendo game that has ever done this, nor a recent third-party release. While Nintendo refuses to acknowledge Operation Rainfall beyond their initial response and some Youtube tags, that's fine--it leaves a lot up to speculation, and a majority are quick to write OpRa off, but--fine.

Although, you can't say Rainfall did nothing when Xenoblade set several precedents like that, can you?

I'm actually looking for someone to prove me wrong here.

@radical_defectOperation rainfall pretty much only raised awareness of these 3 games. Since they saw that there might be an audience for the game after all, so they released Xenoblade in the US. From my understanding OP. Rainfall's "whining" didn't get the game localized, but their free advertisement did.

Maybe I'm losing it but wasn't this already confirmed for North America as Fatal Frame Deep Crimson Butterfly, just without an official release date?

They should be pushing for a localization of White 3DS XL

>:(

Seriously though, these Operations are good and I hope they continue, but it's useless at this point. After TLS and Kirby, Nintendo will likely kill off any and all Wii support. It's better off just to import at this point

Its funny, the other day a friend was talking about Fatal Frame and he asked what happened to it and why haven't they made a new one. It's very unfortunate that they've done this to the series.

Is anybody else getting slightly irritated by all these "Operations" now?

I don't understand...the game came out a month ago (at least I think) isn't it a little to soon to assume the NA won't get a version? Or did NoA specifically say they aren't bringing it over?

Well, as someone who is waiting for Pandora's Tower NA release, i know the feeling, but i don't think Nintendo really cares if all the fans create another operation at all.

Well, in this cases (where Europe get them), Dolphin is a great tool to fix the situation...

I don't believe for a second that Operation Rainfall didn't influence the decision to bring Xenoblade and The Last Story to North America. For PR reasons Nintendo can't admit it -- this giant company doesn't want to look like it's bending to the whims of fans, and they don't want this to become a regular thing every time a game isn't localized.

That said, if there hadn't been a big fan movement there would have been zero chance of either Xenoblade or Last Story making it. I'm absolutely confident of that. The fact that both games came out so much later in North America than Europe or Japan indicates to me that this wasn't a case of Nintendo of America just delaying them -- the delay is so large it's obvious they were never in the plans and something changed their minds, and the only thing that could be is Operation Rainfall.

So yeah, don't get discouraged when Nintendo pretends we had nothing to do with Xenoblade and The Last Story. We proved we can change Nintendo's mind before, we can do it again. Might be too late for Fatal Frame 2, just because it really really late in the Wii's lifespan, but I have a feeling we're going to have to fight for plenty of stuff on the 3DS and WiiU.

Honestly, if Operation Rainfall had even the slightest bit of influence, I doubt Nintendo would acknowledge it.

They likely don't want people thinking any time a game is released that may/may not come out, that a mass letter writing campaign will definitely work. Besides, I'm sure their offices got flooded, not to mention that Nintendo is super-secret about everything, and doesn't reveal how they make decisions.
User avatar
23 Jul 2012 12:03

Yeah... Operation Rainfall had no impact on the games getting localized... Sure... Just like how strikes have nothing to do with a company's "sudden" decision for more fair conditions for its employees...

Though, I agree that there were excesses within the movement, and that having so many "Operations" is silly and just makes the whole concept meaningless.

I thought that pushing for localization of more games was good, yet this thread is getting downvoted?... I must've woken up in bizarro world again.

I'm thinking of making my own operation where we complain to Nintendo about games we want to be released. It will consist of calling (to essentially make their customer servicepersons lives' a living hell), mailing (straight to Regginald Fils-Aime, esquire), and boycotting (to show them we mean business: not buying a Wii U on day one).

This operation, Operation Cubefall, will guarantee the release of our desired titles and make them immediately issue a public apology to us, the loyal fans who undertook much misery in the pursuit of new titles for the Nintendo Gamecube.

Just import the game, get over it and move on!
