It's mighty unfortunate that this is the only ad Nintendo will have for the Wii U ;_____;.

Oh wait.

I thought the commercial was great. It was better than the UK Commercial, that's for sure. But i agree they should have shown more hardcore games like ZombiU :D

Wow, people are so quick to hate on everything. I remember the first reaction to the "Wii would like to play" commercial. People hated it, but now they look back on it fondly. It's just a commercial to hype up the new system to the mass market, so of course they're going to show all the family friendly 1st party stuff, over all the M rated games, that they have for launch. The hardcore already know if they're buying it or not, so no commercial is going to change that now.

Really? I liked those commercials from the first time I saw one. The tone was like "Here's our interesting new system, please try it. It's fun and we think you'll like it." Quite different from this ad.

The commercial doesn't even say that it's a new console, how stupid... .-.

My takeaway from the commercial is that Nintendo wants to forcibly trap consumers in cramped, color-coded panoptic prison cells from which there is no hope of escape.

Notice the lack of beds, the bright constantly-shifting lights, and the grating music, which appear to be enforcing a strict sleep-deprivation regimen.

And above it all we have a disembodied voice ordering the inhabitants of the cells, 'The All New Wii U. This is how U will play next' and then a few moments later, again: 'The All New Wii U. How U will play next'. Notice the lack of any individual agency in those words, which appear to be playing on a loop. They have no choice in the matter, and the repetition implies clear involuntary behavioral conditioning tactics.

My heart cries out for those poor, doomed souls.

Uh, it says 'the all new WiiU' and you can't even buy a gamepad on it's own yet. what is the concern here?

i almost choked on my water omfg XD

but yeah, I like the commercial. It's no "Wii would like to play", but it's very well made. I hope they show more games in the next commercials besides Nintendo's 1st party launch games. Maybe some ZombiU?

Nintendo actually made this and not a fan? And they're aware that during the aliens part the one guy says "we just lost a shovel of guys"
Not complaining but do you think ninty would let that happen?

Well that was pretty bad.

Nintendo focused too much on Nintendo games.
They should have been focusing on 3rd party stuff.
Also the commercial does not mention the phrases "New console", "hardcore" and "next gen"

How will people know this is a new system if Nintendo doesn't tell them?

They only showed like 4 games (all of them E for all ugh...), no mention of online, miiverse, video chat, web browsing, multimedia (if it has any), third party games not nintendo published, a gamer playing... All in all pretty mediocre and casual.

I've got no audio but I liked the commercial just fine. The colors and boxes were vibrant and neat looking and kind of made me want to see what was going on in each... I'm going to contend that the WiiU's killer app will be NintendoTVii and they'd be wise to focus an entire commercial on that. All in all, it was shiny and new looking and that gets attention.

Wow, why is everyone having a negative response to this commercial? I just don't get it. It was a well edited commercial that showed off the features that the casual demographic will care about. WE are already sold on Wii U. Why would Nintendo waste money advertising to us? Enough with the dupstep hate. We get it, apparently NO ONE in the world likes dupstep but companies keep using it. Maybe, JUST maybe they are shooting for something modern? It's catchy, it says it's a new console, has an epic ending and clearly shows the console and the Gamepad. Nintendo marketed the Wii to be one of the best selling consoles ever. I am inclined to think they know what they are doing here.

OK, we are already sold on it.. but what about all the other "hardcore" gamers that Nintendo needs to sell it to? We won't get any 3rd party support if we rely on us buying 3rd party games, because for example I do buy 3rd party games, BUT the typical Nintendo fanboy is mainly interested in Nintendo games. I for one am sick of being left behind as a gamer, because of Nintendo's laziness and the fanboys' refusal to support 3rd party games....

That's why I find this ad disappointing.

Was terrible imo. The quickly transitioning scenes, the shaky camera, and the blaring techno-ish music, didn't answer many of the questions a completely new and unique console like the Wii U would have generated.

Even as a gamer I couldn't pick up a lot of the games they were playing, so I can only imagine how dumb founded anyone less of gamer could have been.

They are still boycotting the system since Nintendo stole their precious Bayonetta 2.

You do realize no "hardcore" gamer will buy a Nintendo system for a variety of reasons, and 3rd parties don't want to support Nintendo because Nintendo doesn't fund 3rd party development and they have to compete with 1st party games.

So long story short no amount of marketing and games are going to get "hardcore" gamers on board

I liked it. Simple. Very colorful. Annoying music.

Hmm... Don't see why all the negativity. What Nintendo did with this commercial seems like the obvious direction to take for a profitable business.

For starters, Nintendo's bread and butter nowadays is the people that pretty much look exactly like the ones shown in the commercial.

Two, they can't show "hardcore", violent/gory visual wherever they're going to air this. I can't believe someone would even suggest that. (Though I wouldn't have minded if Nintendo had shown some ZombiU scenes where the zombie was approaching the player but without the gore so it could be aired anywhere, any time).

Three, I'm surprised a LOT of people have complained about the music. Isn't techno (which profusely uses loud, screechy synths everywhere) played on mainstream radio stations all the time nowadays? (Not saying that this is techno, but it shares some similarities with dubstep and other electronic genres) In other words, the "party" type music, the colorful lights, and the multiplayer commotion displayed in the commercial all represent the lifestyles that most of the people in the mainstream has or chases after.

So for a profitable business, this does the job quite well.

Now we just need a "hardcore" version and Nintendo will have covered all bases.

Not sure about this one. I dunno if it really conveyed what the system is about especially in comparison to how the "Wii would like to play" commercials shown off the Wii.

I think that the North American commercial could be better, but it can certainly be much worse. In other words, I think that the North American commercial is decent.

But the thing that I wonder about is do people understand that the Wii U is a new console and not an add-on of the Wii with the announcer in the commercial saying the new Wii U. I think most people will reply No and say that Nintendo (referring to both Nintendo Corporations Ltd. and Nintendo of America) shot themselves very badly in the foot, because of the North American Wii U commercial.

And I know this seems off topic, but I hate the term hardcore gamer. I prefer the term gamer instead of hardcore gamer. But of course, people will tend to disagree with me heavily and that is fine with me.

Much like when the 3DS came out, this commercial doesn't really explain it's a next gen system from the Wii.

Might cause some confusion this Christmas. But I'm sure Nintendo kind of wants that.

Can't wait to hear how many parents buy Wii U games only this holiday expecting them to work with their Wii.

The music was atrocious. The content of the video was okay, but could've been better. I would assume there will be other commercials for specific games and/or detailing system features. I would hope so anyways.
