Did you know that GamePad usage time may be reduced to 70% after 500 charges of the battery, which is about 2000 hours of gameplay? If your GamePad battery starts to really lose its luster, you can rest easy. The batteries have been confirmed to be user-replaceable. You'll only need a screwdriver and an official battery from Nintendo. You can get that via Nintendo's support website or by calling Customer Service. No word on cost at this time.
Also worth noting, the battery in the Wii U Pro Controller and Wii U itself can also be replaced.
