REPORT - Man gets prison sentence for threatening agents with Wii controller

A 29 year old man from Veldhoven was sent to prison because he had threatened police agents with a modded Wii controller in May. The court convicted the offender Tuesday to a prison sentence of 367 days, 180 suspended. The man also had to pay the police agent a compensation of 3,000 euros.

The Dutchman had modded the Wii controller into 92 centimeters long sniper rifle with a pistol grip. He had aimed the object looking like a firearm intentionally on the police agents who felt threatened and fired a warning shot.

In determining the sentence, the court noted that the officers felt threatened and had feared for their lives. The court found the culprit not fully of sound mind and therefore lowered the penalty. The man indicated his willingness to seek treatment for his mental problems.

Oh yeah! You point a fake weapon to a policeman, you go in jail or a mental institute AND you get to pay money TO HIM...A policeman beats the hell out of you, without a reason and he might or might not even be judged, he might get away with it with no trial or anything and even if he gets a penalty, it ISN'T prison time and the fine he needs to pay ISN'T TOWARDS YOU!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the "Justice" system, ladies and gentlemen!

I hear you.

It's a bit extreme for starters, fair enough he may have been threatening the police but the reality is, they now know it wasn't a real weapon so why are they putting him in jail. I guess they could be worried that he's so unstable that next time he might have a real gun, however it's surely better to get the guy treatment if he is indeed mentally unstable. I'm pretty sure locking him up isn't going to do any good and might make him more unstable.

I'm also not sure about the compensation part. I could see the point if the money was going back into the community as it cost the taxpayer money no doubt to deal with the case, but paying the policeman seems way off and downright ridiculous.

Seeing as the internet isn't the best medium for expressing sarcasm, I'm going to hope that you were joking there.

If not, you're awful.
