I just got the white XL with Mario Kart pre-installed, it really is lovely.
I still wish Nintendo would design handhelds that could just have custom case covers [like phones].
Buying a whole new piece of hardware just for a different design is weird to me.
Why is everything released in Japan? Jeez. I really want the Cobalt Blue. But nooo, I'm stuck with my crappy Cosmo Black. NoA sucks. They can't even give us a release date for AC:NL.

People do sell cases for them. Not seen many for the 3DS, but quite a lot of people had them before then with the DS here in Japan. Tons of people have all sorts of cute cases etc for phones here too, a lot more than what I saw back in the UK, but then again, now that such devices (including tablets etc) have exploded lately I guess there's a lot more now though.
