Recently, we had an article that showed how both Sony and Microsoft missed out on the tech behind the Wii. Now we have a similar story about how Microsoft missed their chance at getting Resident Evil 4 as an Xbox exclusive.
Shinji Mikami was getting tired and frustrated with working on the PS2. He was out to move the Resident Evil series away from Sony's grasp, so he decided to meet with Microsoft. The meeting was about bringing Resident Evil to the Xbox. That meeting went terribly wrong, with Mikami not getting the answers he needed to feel persuaded. He ended up taking his business to Nintendo, which managed to sync up on ideas, thus giving us Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube.
That's the quick and dirty version of the story. Please make sure to hit up the feature below for the full details.

Of course, Nintendo was the last person they went to :/ (i'm still glad it happened though)
Imagine how much better the game would have been on Xbox.
The Wii Edition is the best of the three, IMO.
And now it's on every console known to man, animal, and extraterrestrial.
@M1
What would have made it better? Significantly better at that. . .slightly better graphics? (Unless you're being sarcastic, in which case I apologize)
The power and features of Xbox.
Even the Xbox had a full second analog stick.
The Capcom Five.
@M1
So? The power and "features" (what features exactly? I hope i'm not coming off as attacking, I wasn't too big on the original xbox so I'm not exactly an expert on it) would have made very little impact.
As would have the second analog stick. Ever play Resident Evil 5? That was on Xbox 360 and PS3 which featured fancy second analog sticks and still controlled like RE4. That wouldn't have changed on the original Xbox.
I dont believe the Xbox wouldve added much to the game honestly, and if I recall the Cube was more capable in the visual department so graphic wise I doubt it would've looked better on the Xbox. We'll never know now though, the Cube got it and it was amazing.
The resident evil series and capcom as a whole is very good friends with nintendo. That is why microsoft always get the shortest end of the stick with this series. The only good game they have is code veronica
And btw I still class the gamecube version as the absolute best.
if you read the article and switch microsoft with nintendo, Japan with US, you got an article describing the last years of the wii and the launch of the Wii U.
So Nintendo was the third parties last choice :-\ No surprise.
The REmake was also amazing. Still one of the best survival horror games ever. Imagine how different (read: bad) it would've been had Microsoft been involved.
My take away point is that everyone says Nintendo is difficult to work with, but they end up there because the other console makers are worse.
Mike from Morgantown
Just finished reading that entire article, it was very long but wow that was an amazing read. I do wish Microsoft the best of luck in Japan this next generation and hopefully they've learned their lessons in how to appropriately communicate without coming off as rude or cocky.
Wow poor Mikami to think he would be stabbed in the back not much later.
