Yeah, I agree that it won't be explicitly about gender, but that's the first thing that came to mind.
So... Who else is Team Firefox?
Secondly, I would like to announce I am going to have Fennekin as starter, and I shall nickname him/her Red-Ears. That is, unless his/her evolutions don't have red ears.
If you carefully watch the trailer, the new legendary pokèmon that will be on the game cover are shown. The new legendary bird resembles an X, with its tail and wings open while flying. The new legendary deer instead resembles a Y (in the trailer itself, look at the horns...). I believe they will be on the cover of the respective game (or maybe crossed, just like Black and White). X and Y are always together not only in cromosomes but also in mathematics and many other occasions, so it's a nice way of leaving the colors/gems that were used in previous titles. Really excited about these new games (and I stopped playing Pokèmon with Ruby.)
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the X and Y represent two of the three planes in a 3D coordinate system(X, Y, Z). Which mean this generations Platinum/Yellow companion game will be called Pokemon Z. Maybe?
Lol you don't have to watch carefully to notice the two legendaries. They were quite obvious but yes the versions do represent them.. but you got them backwards.
X is supposed to be the deer. The x on the logo is even colored blue (which is also the same color as the pokemon) and has antlers added to it while the red one is the same color as the bird and has feathers to it.
Edit: Friend also pointed out that if you look at the deer closely you will notice there's a x in its eye. Crazy he caught that.

Yeah. Just saw this idea on GAF too - it's so Nintendo to name a game if it can relate to the system it's on.
X = Sky legendary = Height[?]
Y = Land legendary = Width[?] Z = Sea legendary = Depth

Um the bird formed a giant Y in the sky and was red.. The Y on the logo was red and had feathers at the end of it.
The deer's stance was rather bad but if it was standing with its legs separated, it would form the X. Also the X logo was blue and had antlers on it.
Finally one last thing.. my friend caught that for that 2 seconds you get to see the deer up close, you'll notice there's a x in its eyes. Crazy.. even I didn't noticed that until he brought it up.
Well that was the megaton we've all been waiting for.
Any issues about selling 3DSs at a fast enough rate will be fixed up in October. Hopefully this heads up gives developers time to put more games out in Novemeber/December since the install base of the 3DS is about to go way up.

Fairplay.
Oh, and this might not pertain to all of you - but I'm finally not gonna have to lock-down myself on the new pokemon, since we're all getting it day one [or near enough]!
I managed to do this for Gen V and it was so much better not knowing the majority of the new pokemon [compared to Gen IV, which I spoiled myself entirely on before the western releases].
Junichi_Masuda was just in France, and his Twitter photo is him with the Eiffel Tower
We have what appears to be an Eiffel Tower like structure in the trailer, together with other classical European style architecture
Starters based on things stereotypically associated with France, including Chestnuts, Frogs and Fennec
The Cartesian coordinate system (you know, X & Y) was developed by René Descartes, a French philosopher
Nintendo really kicks off the new year with a BIG bang!!
The 3DS just got its biggest weapon of all; But man, just that game-play footage alone got me really excited. Like the designs of the new starters, and the 2 new Legendaries really look awesome, especially the new bird one who will represent Pokemon Y version.
This is cool and all, but it is kind of weird there are only 20 new pokemon. That's the one thing that rubs me off. However, if there is enough new content to fully experience, i'm good.
EDIT: I'm not sure if I actually heard 20. I may be wrong.
EDIT 2: Disregard that "only 20 new pokemon" I'm still stuck in that Pokemon Rainbow rumor.
Off the Pokemon topic I don't know why but I really love the fact that it's Iwata that does all this (presenting).
It's quite endearing. (For example, his "Hi" at the beginning made me crack up so much!)
I'll be getting Pokemon X come October then, really looking forward to these games already.

YOU GUYS. AH MY GLOB. I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS.
I only saw about a fifth of the actual presentation because it kept lagging on me so bad, but I AM SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW.
I'm glad I'm not the only that thought of chromosomes. Although I seriously doubt that the titles have anything to do with that.

Oh, you win. That is great.
@Chosenoneknuckles
Probably should be
X = Land legendary (since it is the deer and on a coordinate plane.. x is the horizontal) = Width
Y = Sky legendary (since it's the bird and on a coordinate plane.. y is the vertical) = Height
Z = Sea Legendary = Depth
Ah. Yeah, I couldn't remember which XY was which [hence my ? inclusions].
EDIT: Nevermind. Watched it back [don't see the 'X' as clear with the Land legendary, though].

The Japanese logos have DNA Strands so I think Pokemon might fuse...I really hope not though.
Makes sense to me.
I don't usually buy a pokemon game unless there's a stadium/Colosseum/battle revolution game coming out for the corresponding gen.
Looks like I'll be skipping Black and White entirely.
TOO. FREAKING. AWESOME!

It would have been awesome if we got 3 versions all at once. X = Green, Y = Red and Z - Blue.
3 versions would have been a first...
I'm not really a big fan of the Pokemon series, the last one I played was Blue, but I may give this one a try.
@Dusk
So, essentially gen 3's legendaries? (Rayquaza, Groudon and Kyogre)
Then it looks like "Pokemon Z" will come afterwards in the future after "Pokemon X" and "Pokemon Y". ^_^
This is really exciting for the Pokemon franchise!
