Interesting, I think the idea is that by using DS games they can show the utility of the gamepad without having to wait for games that likely still in early development stages.

Wow. That came out of nowhere.

That's great, but this why we need unified accounts because there's no reason we shouldn't be able to play the DS games we buy in the Wii U VC on our 3DS. Same with any of the other games we buy on either systems. Whether it's NES, SNES, N64, GC. Just join the two. I'd like to think a 3DS owner might be more inclined to buy a Wii U if there was some kind of incentive.

And I really hope they make use of the gamepad's features because I can't imagine playing something like Metroid Prime: Hunters with the stylus using the gamepad. It's just too heavy. So, I'm hoping the use the joysticks or something. for certain games.

Also, put GBA games in both stores as well. It's time. I'm ready to buy them. I want to spend my money on them. Nintendo needs my money. Just do it. GBA games would be great for both. I'd probablly end up buying them on the Wii U if I had the choice, tbh.

Hmm... Never expected this. Can't wait to see what will come out of it. ^_^

I don't think this is a bad move, but I can't get excited over it. I'd much rather hear of plans to improve the VC service, then plans of another console's addition (which, honestly, hasn't had a great track record, hence having heard of GBA games over a year ago, and having seen not even a hint of them since).

I want to get excited for the service, I really do, but Nintendo makes it very hard. They're so painfully slow, slowly rereleasing games that they released on the Wii's VC. =/ Nintendo desperately needs to get with it in terms of the VC.

Boring. Call me when we get Gamecube VC.

That's cool... Castlevanias!

Why not just... provide better, more consistent support for the systems that are *already* on the VC?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking about those, although I don't see how they'll render those sprites without pixelating them.

This sounds cool and everything, but they haven't even delivered on N64 VC yet, let alone the GBA and Gamecube we were also promised, so DS VC kind of feels like an empty promise. I don't want to hear that they're doing it in the near future, I want to hear that they're doing it NOW, which is a recurring problem with the Virtual Console service itself.

We were never promised GCN...

Will I finally be able to play Mario 64 DS on my TV? I hope Nintendo makes an update that can project 3ds games on your tv through Wii U as well. Either the Wii U could be the controller, or it could just be the projector for the tv, while the 3ds is the controller.

I sincerely hope they plan to re-render the games in at least double resolution or else I won't be interested.

This. How is that going to happen, I could do that with their own games, because having the assets and all, but sounds cumbersome. I think for sprite games it is the same process like with NES and SNES but low poly games will look hideous on those screens.

Considering I can play them on 3DS, and very few (if any?) DS games go for higher prices than I'm interested in paying (would be different if some DS game I wanted was really rare and went for... 100$+ even used), I'm not too interested. At least give us the GBA and N64 VC games first (and Gamecube?), what happened to those?

Well they did re-render N64 games at 640x480 for the Wii VC, so it's definitely possible. I'd like to think they won't take the lazy route here, otherways 3D DS games are going to look hideous on a TV.

999 and The World Ends Without You on my TV! I looooooooooove that. The WiiU is now the Nintendo HD console + Wii BC + VC + indies machine + PSVita TV like console, now i want to play "selected" 3DS games on my WiiU gamepad and a Wii VC with HD changes for the WiiU. I like when Nintendo is in danger, they are changing their approche and it's a all winner for gamers. Well done, Nintendo.

Now i want N64 HD VC and a new GC HD remake every 6 months. I pretty shure now WiiU is not going to be kill in a the next 4 years and it's going to be the place where the new Nintendo is starting his new vision. I'm really hype for the future!

Weird how the actual console games in the N64, Gamecube and Wii are getting pasted over for much harder to port over [well] handheld games... :?

Actually I am wondering what they are going to do, because DS games already looked pretty bad in their own resolution. Like in games like Super Mario 64 DS the jagged edges and reduced textures were glaringly obvious on the DS screen alone.

On a TV screen, though? Yikes.

I have stacks and stacks of DS games. If they allow me to use those carts then I'm in. If I have to rebuy them, there is no point in having this option. If I'm going to play DS games I would rather play them on one of my 4 handheld devices that they work with.

Nobody is going to buy a WiiU to play DS games that they have to re-buy. However, they will if they can play DS games that they already have.

Well I mean they gotta start somewhere. That said, what about N64, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Neogeo, Turbo Grafx, Commodor 64, Arcade, etc?

Etrian Odyssey DS games on Wii U would be nice, with the map making on the GamePad.
A brand NEW Etrian Odyssey for Wii U would be even better.

I didn't really follow the DS although i have a DSi, but i assume the 3rd party support was there like crazy. This could be a good testing ground for some developers to see if their concept could work with the gamepad and tv. If they bring out one of their DS titles and it does decent, it could lead to a sequel or a game with similar mechanics on the WiiU. Like someone else mentioned earlier too, this could be a way for Nintendo to show off some of the different things you can use the gamepad for to effect gameplay.
