Pachter - Apple will copy 3DS tech, take the lead away from Nintendo

GN Version 3.1

“It’s pretty clear that Apple intends to emulate (see their patent filings last month), so only a matter of time before we see tablets with the same technology used for viewing movies. I’m not sure that the screen size of the 3DS will be ideal for watching movies, and Apple is pretty far ahead with its iTunes/App store, so it’s more likely that Apple will take the lead once it releases a glasses free device… I’m really not confident that Nintendo thinks of itself as an entertainment company; rather, they seem laser focused on games, and that has served them well. Apple, on the other hand, is constantly trying to branch into entertainment, usually with great success, and is famous for taking others’ ideas and iterating them into a new form factor and generating a lot of new content. I expect them to do the same with the 3DS technology, and it will be interesting to see if Nintendo’s first mover advantage is sustained.” - Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter

It’ll be interesting to see what other areas of entertainment do with their 3D content. They’ll have the 3DS option for now, but when Apple does do something 3D related, I fear Nintendo is going to lose their support.
