GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Are remakes what the 3DS needs?

Funny how a teaser site can make me even more excited for a game, but that’s what the Ocarina of Time teaser site has done. I could sit and stare at that thing for hours…and that could very well happen! I’m going to keep drooling at that bad boy, and then turn in for the night. See you in a few, short hours!

We are very, very early on in the 3DS life, which will hopefully last for many years to come. Obviously, we’re seeing that Nintendo is having a tad bit of trouble expressing to consumers why they should pick up a 3DS. They are going to try all sorts of methods to reach consumers in the months to come, and some of that will be through the lineup of software itself.

What better way to get gamers interested in a new gaming platform than by offering content that they’ve already played? The video game remake is nothing new to the industry, but Nintendo seem to be really getting in on the idea with the 3DS. While we had a Super Mario 64 remake at the launch of the DS, we’re seeing two high profile remakes on the 3DS. Both Ocarina of Time and StarFox 64 are going to show us what the 3DS can do.

I have to admit, I really am excited for both of these games. Being a huge StarFox fan, I can’t help but smile a bit when I see Nintendo paying attention to the series. While I’d love to see a brand-new entry in the long-running franchise, a remake of one of the most loved N64 titles is fine by me. A step up in the graphics is nice to see, but I’ve seen first hand how the 3D effect helps you make better judgments during gameplay. I’m ready for this old, but new experience to wow me once again.

Speaking of old but new, I still can’t believe that Ocarina of Time is actually getting a remake. This is, without a doubt, the most popular Zelda entry in the entire franchise. People have been clamoring for a remake for a number of years now, so why not give it to them on Nintendo’s latest hardware? New graphics, gyroscopic camera controls and brand-new content on the way. This one sounds like it’s going ot be a must have, and I bet Nintendo is hoping that non-3DS owners can’t resist the call of this gem.

With all that praise, I still have to say that I’d like to see more new content hitting the system. Remakes are fun, but we don’t want to see Nintendo rehash their entire lineup for the 3DS. Overall, how do you guys feel about remakes? Are you excited for what Nintendo is doing, or do you see these titles as a quick cash-in?
