Dear Reader:
Iwata - Wii successor will present a new approach to console gaming, analysts discuss Nintendo financials
“We would like to propose a new approach to home video game consoles. It’s difficult to make 3-D images a key feature, because 3-D televisions haven’t obtained wide acceptance yet.” - Satoru Iwata
We’re all excited to hear more about the Wii successor, but analysts want to talk about the current systems and where they sit. This is following Nintendo’s fiscal report, which shows profits dropping 66%.
“The market reaction is likely to be negative, because the profit outlook fell short of the consensus. Sales of Wii software are forecast to plunge, while at the same time the company’s outlook is probably also taking into account a price cut for the console. The outlook for 3DS hardware and software sales is very aggressive. The company will need a very strong lineup of original titles to meet these goals.” - Yusuke Tsunoda, an analyst at Tokai Tokyo Securities Co.
Can Nintendo pull off their goals for the 3DS this year, all while leading up to the Wii successor? Sure seems like a full plate to me.
