Rumor control - Metroid sold over 400,000 units in first week

Alright, follow me on this one if you will. There is a bit of news going around claiming that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption sold over 400,000 units in its first week on store shelves. The story goes through a bunch of sources, and in the end there is nothing official to back it up.

Gamasutra posted an article stating that Metroid bested Bioshock this past week. Bioshock was the previous number one seller, all platform sales. From there, VGChartz has their info stating that Bioshock sold over 400,000 units during its first week. From there, N4G used those numbers to claim them as concrete for Bioshock’s first week. From there, TehGamr quotes everyone else, and takes the Gamasutra wording as stating that Metroid bested Bioshock’s first week sales. Quite a mess indeed!

Basically, it all boils down to how you take the Gamasutra wording. My opinion? Wait until we get a press release from Nintendo…or the final NPD numbers come out for some sort of guage. Thanks to Homersfan for the original article!
