Rayman Raving Rabbids boxart?

Reader BasiX hit my email inbox just as I was about to head to bed. He sent me a link that shows off what looks to be boxart for Rayman Raving Rabbids on the Wii. The link took me to Nintendo of Europe’s official website. Only problem is that the image is pretty tiny!

So now we get to figure out if this is real boxart or not. If it is genuine, then this would make it the first official Wii software boxart we have seen. Let’s start with the arguements in favor of the boxart first.

1. This is the only Wii boxart available on Nintendo of Europe’s website. Every other Wii title shows this placeholder image.

2. Why put a placeholder artwork image when no other titles in the list have them?

Now for the arguements against…

1. I just don’t see it making sense for Wii software boxes to not have a Wii banner. We have seen this banner trend with the GameCube, DS, GBA (entire GB series), N64, and the SNES (albeit some on the side of the box, some on the front) and I would think the Wii would follow that tradition. Is that Wii logo really enough?

2. The boxart just doesn’t look final to me. I see the rating, the Ubisoft logo, and the rest…but something just doesn’t look right. Also, I give props to anyone who can figure out what it says in white text above the Wii logo. That might be the key in determining final boxart, or placeholder image.

3. If you check out the banner image on the Nintendo of Europe page, you can see the same images that appear in the supposed boxart.

This should be a nice little discussion for you guys to dig into while I head to bed! I will throw in my two cents…I think it is just a placeholder image. State your claim, is it official, mock-up, placeholder, official cover art (but a placeholder Wii software package)…you decide!

I’ll be back in about 6-7 hours…RMC needs his sleep!
