Do Developers Affect Game Sales?

I honestly do believe that some developers have an impact on game sales. The more a developer gets out in-front of the crowd, they become a figurehead. Be that for a franchise, or a development company…this can help the core gamer recognize certain bodies of work. Perhaps a specific developer can bring sales of a title down, or can build sales up. I know that there are plenty of people that buy Miyamoto games, just because he’s involved in them. Do you think that developers can play into total game sales, be it positive or negative?
