Retro Mega Man could mean retro Castlevania, which could mean even more retro titles to follow

Earlier in the week, we talked about Castlevania guru Koji Igarashi, and his comments concerning Mega Man 9. Basically, Mr. Igarashi said that he would be following the reaction to Mega Man 9 very closely. Basically, if the title sells well, Igarashi may be that much more inclined to take the Castelvania series in that direction.

An 8-bit Castlevania would be an awesome addition to WiiWare, or any DLC platform for that matter. It seems like Capcom is paving the way for a huge retro revival. Old-school gameplay and graphics, brand-new games and scenarios. If the Blue Bomber does well, Igarashi may take the leap. If Igarashi does and succeeds, more companies could follow. We’ve already heard interest from multiple third parties. It’s a gaming flashback that I am totally pleased with.

I think gaming has moved too fast to keep up with itself. Games are prettier, bigger, shinier…but are they better? Some titles are definitely worth their weight in polygons, but many more just didn’t impress. The industry rushed out of the early generation of games for bigger, better platforms. Perhaps it’s time for everyone in the industry to take a step back, and re-evaluate just what makes a game great.
