Dear Reader:
EA talks about Nintendo, E3 media briefing, and we'll see MotionPlus titles very soon
GameDaily BIZ: Let’s start with your take on the Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo conferences. What excited your about their announcements?
FG: As for Nintendo, they can barely keep [the Wii] in stock. There’s obviously a lot of overlap between the Wii customer and potentially PS2 owners, and there’s some cross-ownership with next-gen consumers. But between the DS and the Wii, they’re really opening up new segments and bringing new customers to the market that is adding to the pie.
BIZ: Nintendo talked about how third parties are already showing support for its new Wii Motion Plus. How will EA take advantage of the accessory in its games?
FG: I can only speak for my group [EA Games label]… More precision in the Wii-mote is good for us because of the types of games (shooting, driving), you need a little bit more precision in those types of interactive moments. From our perspective, we’re very supportive; we think it will allow us to create tighter interactive experiences in more traditional game categories.
BIZ: How long ago did Nintendo approach you about it and how long will it be before we see EA titles that incorporate it?
FG: I’m not at liberty to say; we kind of keep those interactions tight, but you’ll be seeing those [titles] very soon from us.
