In defense of GameStop's used games

I don’t think the used game market is a bad idea. As a matter of fact, I think it’s a fantastic idea. I like that it gives people with less cash a chance to play some newer games. It also makes it easier for younger gamers to crack open the piggybank, and enjoy the what the industry has to offer.

In the article below, Soren Johnson fro EA Maxis is ragging on those of us that look down upon GameStop for selling used games. He says that what they are doing helps the game industry, by both expanding the audience and offering games to those that otherwise couldn’t afford to play. As I said above, I think used game sales are great for consumers. The problem is, GameStop isn’t very fair to the people that are supplying them with the used games. The amount of return on used sales needs to be higher for those trading in…much higher. When you trade in a new game, get $30 for it, and GameStop sells it for $47.99…something is wrong.
