RUMOR - Earthbound never coming to Virtual Console due to licensing issues
I have one friend that constantly asks me about Earthbound on the Virtual Console. All I tell him is that there was an ESRB rating, and that’s all I know. Now I have the unpleasant news of telling him that this rating may have been a mistake.
It sounds like there are licensing issues concerning Earthbound’s soundtrack, which contains numerous similarities to real-world songs. These similarities are a point of worry for Nintendo, and it appears that NCL won’t approve the changes that NoA wants to make. It appears that the ESRB rating was also a mistake on the ESRB’s half, and should have never went live. So…the game sits in limbo, and we will most-likely never see it on the VC.
