The feature set improvements of the new DSi are subtler, but once again in my opinion present significant opportunity for the brave. I do not ask myself what the consumer will do with the better music, and in-built camera’s but instead I ponder what Nintendo have in development to exploit these, for once again the success will come from the software that utilises these functions and the genius will once again be led by first party. - Koch Media

Despite its undoubted success there are issues with the DS format. The number one factor in the DS success story, the diversity of software available, is definitely under threat. There are too many titles being released that appeal to exactly the same audience. There are too many games where the license is more important than the quality of the game.

The DSi can help invigorate the market by giving publishers the opportunity to offer something new to the format. The camera is one such example. Being able to take your own photos and “add” your own uniqueness to a game could bring a whole new dimension to the gaming experience. - Midas’ head of sales, Sam Collins

The ability to use the device as much more than a games machine is now starting to appear with the addition of a camera in the DSi. Movies, music download, email facilities, Wii-like motion controls and a broader communication range is something that we’re most likely to see, and consumers that have bought into Nintendo are very loyal. - Atari PR man Lee Kirton
