WiiWare games must pass sales threshold before devs get paid
Well here’s a bit of interesting news. Coming from a GDC session, Gamasutra publisher and Independent Game Festival chairman Simon Carless discussed how sales work when it comes to WiiWare. Basically, Nintendo has a threshold set for all games that hit the service. Once a title hits that sales threshold (mid quadruple digits for NA, low quadruple digits for other territories), Nintendo will then pay the developers. If a game doesn’t reach that threshold, the people involved in creating/distributing the game don’t see a single penny. This threshold is in place to try and keep shovelware off the platform.
