I love articles like this. So truly nerdy, and that’s what makes them so great. I’m a huge nerd, and whenever an article pops up that pulls apart pixels/sprites and image progression through the years, I’ll be all over it.

In the forum post/article below, we see how the new age of TV technology may have caused the sprite generation to lose some of the long, hard work that developers put into their art. Details lost, margins stretched, and all other sorts of aspects now done away with.
