Comedy duo Yoiko checks out Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
New footage of a revamped classic
Nintendo is back with another video featuring Yoiko, a popular comedy duo in Japan. Once again, the comedians have visited their friends at Nintendo to go hands-on with a game, but this time around they’re enjoying a game that needs little introduction.
Yoiko is a Japanese comic duo from Konohana-ku, Osaka that is employed by the comedy talent agency Shochiku Geino. Yoiko are known otakus, and the duo (kombi) was originally formed under the pretense of Shinya Arino as the boke (stooge) and Masaru Hamaguchi as the tsukkomi (straightman), but as time went on and Hamaguchi’s “natural stupidness” started to shine through, the duo became known as “the duo with no real distinction between the boke and the tsukkomi”.
In today’s video, Yoiko sits down to play the upcoming Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. While the video might not have a translation, it still offers up plenty of gameplay from the Switch revamp. Give it a watch and scrub through the video to see all kinds of gameplay footage not seen anywhere else!
The Pokémon Co. has really been leaning into their Pokémon Kids TV YouTube Channel lately, adding all sorts of content for youngsters to enjoy. Today they’re back with yet another feature, and this time it’s not a music video!
Today brings us a new episode of Puppet Pokémon ON AIR, a program presenting fun reports on Pokémon! This installment gives us a look at the Ice-type Pokémon featured illuminations, drift ice, and Kamakura (igloos) during a visit to Hokkaido.
Just in case you couldn’t tell from the Channel name, these videos are aimed at very young children. If you’re a parent looking to steal away just a few minutes of personal time, this video might be able to help!
Remakes are a big part of the game industry right now. Every publisher under the sun is looking to snag remake rights, and developers are quick to turn to their classics in order to revive them for modern-day audiences. Forever Entertainment is no stranger to the remake scene, and they believe they’ve found the perfect platform for their revamps.
In an interview with Games Industry, Forever Entertainment communications and marketing manager Monika Ginter spoke about the company’s remake output, much of which has found its way to Switch. According to Ginter, there’s simply no better platform right now for their remakes than Nintendo’s hybrid.
“Until now, our remakes have focused on games from Japan, and Japanese gamers have shown great excitement for our updated versions of classics. In terms of platforms, we consider the Nintendo Switch as the ideal platform for various classic remakes. We appreciate the accessibility of the Nintendo Switch. With a diverse user base, our games can reach a broad audience, including those who may not have encountered classics like Front Mission or Panzer Dragoon before.”
Celebrate ActRaiser, Yuzo Koshiro, and Jazz with Prescription for Sleep: Heavenly Avatar, Launching Today
Rest easy, gamers
Scarlet Moon is pleased to announce Prescription for Sleep: Heavenly Avatar, a celebration of jazz and friendship with a tribute to Yuzo Koshiro’s soundtrack to ActRaiser to chill, relax, sleep, and study to. As one of Koshiro’s defining works, the score has been a longtime standout in his expansive catalog. Scarlet Moon was thrilled to collaborate with Koshiro on the album’s track selection and on commentary in the digital booklet available to customers on Bandcamp. The booklet also includes and interview with GENTLE LOVE, recording notes, comics by illustrator Maximo Lorenzo, and more.
Prescription for Sleep: Heavenly Avatar is the 15th album in this Billboard-charting jazz series. GENTLE LOVE is a duo compromised of Metal Gear Solid series composer Norihiko Hibino on saxophone and Etrian Odyssey/PersonaQ performer AYAKI on piano. Fans will enjoy key themes from the original ActRaiser, including the triumphant opening theme, the action-packed first stage “Filmoa,” the serene city-building theme, “Birth of the People,” and yes, even the short “descent” stinger that will prove to be a welcome surprise for listeners in “Advent.” Prescription for Sleep: Heavenly Avatar is now available for pre-order on all digital storefronts and will release on May 17, 2024:
Prescription for Sleep: Heavenly Avatar Pre-Orders on All Storefronts
“I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Hibino-san for over a decade,” reflects composer Yuzo Koshiro. “What sets Heavenly Avatar apart is its jazz-infused tracklist—a departure from ActRaiser’s original orchestral compositions. I hope you find as much enjoyment in listening to this album as I have.”
“Knowing about Hibino-san and Koshiro-san’s longstanding friendship, and loving Koshiro-san’s music over the years, I wanted to find a way for them to collaborate once more,” adds Scarlet Moon’s Jayson Napolitano. “We’re really pleased to celebrate ten years of the series with this album and hope fans of the series and the game enjoy it!”

Nintendo says not to lay your Switch dock down, but Sakurai begs to differ
Rather docking news
Nintendo has a very long list of things they say not to do with the Switch in order to keep it in tip-top shape. One of those things is laying the Switch dock down, but apparently one of Nintendo’s biggest devs doesn’t feel like following those rules!
In the latest episode of “Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games,” Sakurai took some time away from sharing game development secrets in order to show off his game hardware/software collection and how he stores everything. When it comes to modern hardware, Sakurai definitely has a Switch, but he’s got a setup that Nintendo very much wouldn’t approve of.
As you see in the image above, Sakurai has his Switch dock laying down. While Sakurai says that the dock could be stood up if need be, it’s clear face-up so that the Switch can be easier taken out and placed in. It’s pretty surprising to see Sakurai show this Switch setup, as he no doubt knows Nintendo wouldn’t approve!
If you check out Nintendo’s official Switch Q&A on their website, they specifically have a section about laying the dock down. In a question as to whether this can be done, Nintendo states, “The use of the dock on its side is not supported. Please position the dock so that the Nintendo Switch logo is visible from the front.”
Sakurai actually addressed his decision to use his Switch dock in this way all the way back in 2022. Gamers caught a glimpse of how Sakurai had his dock set up in a previous video, to with Sakurai said that he knows that laying it down is “not recommended by the manufacturer, so do so at your own risk.” (h/t @naetoru60)
If relations between Nintendo and Sakurai fall apart sometime in the future, we can look to this moment as the impetus for everything going wrong!

GigaBash "Godzilla: Nemesis" 2 Kaiju Pack DLC now available
Familiar foes have arrived
King Ghidorah and Hedorah join the Gigabash roster as part of the Nemesis 2 Kaiju Pack DLC. Check out the latest trailer for Gigabash to see these two new playable characters from the Godzilla universe in action in the Kaiju fighting game.
As seen in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991), King Ghidorah is Godzilla’s most formidable rival. Each of its colossal, horned heads can blast destructive lightning bolt-like Gravity Beams capable of tearing through entire skyscrapers. Its supersonic wings not only allow it to fly and rain destructive Gravity Beams from above but are also powerful enough to produce powerful shockwaves that uproot buildings and send them flying.
Hedorah is the smog monster that stands taller than Godzilla and can match the King of the Monsters blow for blow. As seen in Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971), it can spit Acidic Sludge, throw mud balls at its enemy, and even shoot a Hedrium Ray from one of its eyes. It can also revert to its Flying Stage to escape attacks with surprising agility. Few foes have ever proved as challenging for Godzilla and humankind as Hedorah.

Walmart appears to be cancelling Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door pre-orders
What's going on here?!
If you pre-ordered a physical copy of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door from Walmart, you might want to take a minute and check on that pre-order, as it might be cancelled.
Walmart is sending emails to customers telling them that their pre-order for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has been cancelled. Walmart is offering those impacted $25 off their next purchase through Walmart, so at least there’s a little something to ease the pain customers will no doubt feel.
In their email to customers, Walmart specifically says that “Nintendo will only be offering this item in stores.” We’re not exactly sure what that means or if it applies to more than just Walmart, but it’s a strange situation nonetheless. This dovetails with the recent news that Amazon was also cancelling Switch game pre-orders, and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was a victim in that wave of cancellations as well.
We’ve reached out to Nintendo for comment on this matter and the post will be updated if/when we receive a statement.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 heads to theaters Dec. 5th, 2025
Six nights at Freddy's?
The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has been a big success by any measure. It quickly became Blumhouse’s highest grossing movie in the studio’s history and it brought in the biggest five-day debut of any title on Peacock. Even without confirmation, everyone knew that a sequel would be greenlit, and now we know when that follow-up is coming.
Universal and Blumhouse have officially announced Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 for release in theaters on Dec. 5th, 2025. It’s worth pointing out that the first movie arrived in theaters and on the Peacock streaming service the same day, but it appears the sequel is going to have a theater-only run this time around, but a streaming release will surely follow a few months later.
Josh Hutcherson was the lead in Five Nights at Freddy’s, and last we heard, he was itching to get in front of the camera for the follow-up. In an interview with Variety, Hutcherson gave fans some insight as to where the film is in terms of development.
“I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible. Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was was so cool and phenomenal. We hoped it would connect with audiences, but I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”
