GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Minecraft on Wii U seems like the real deal

It's Nintendo Direct day, my friends! Been a long time since we've said that. I don't think this thing could be anymore hyped. Throw in the Minecraft news and Pokemon teases and you've got a real fevered pitch going on! Let's hope this sucker really delivers. See you in a few, short hours!

I'm going to be honest here. I really think Minecraft is 100% confirmed for Wii U. This isn't a case of hearsay or anything like that. We have an official PEGI listing of the game. I even double-checked to make sure the listing was still live just a minute ago, and indeed it is. This doesn't look like an accidental listing by any means, especially considering how the official listing says 'Wii U Edition'. That's not something you type out by accident.

It's been quite sad to see the Nintendo side of platforms left out of the Minecraft fun. Minecraft is one of the biggest games of all-time and it seems quite unstoppable. The title just keeps growing bigger and bigger. It's been on just about every current platform under the sun, but for whatever reasons, the Wii U and 3DS were left out. I can understand the 3DS being left out due to power of the platform, but the Wii U going without the game has really stung.

Minecraft is not only a huge game, it's also a huge part of gaming culture. It brought in all sorts of new players to the video game scene and continues to do that to this day. Not having the game out on any Nintendo platforms really left Nintendo at a deficit. It was missing out on all the hype and attention that the game was getting. Thankfully, it seems that that ill fate is about to be reversed.

I understand some people saying it's simply too late for Minecraft to hit Wii U. I happen to follow the mantra of better late than never. I've purchased Minecraft on multiple platforms, and you can bet I'll grab this game day-one on Wii U. I'm just hoping that the Wii U's unique control options are really put to good use here, instead of this port just being a quick cash-grab. Even if that were to happen, I still say kudos to Microsoft for putting the effort forward to make this happen. Obviously they want to make money and that's the most important thing to a company, but that still doesn't mean they had to move ahead on a Wii U version.

From details in the listing, it seems that Minecraft could actually hit the Wii U tomorrow. That would be a real one-two punch for Wii U owners in a very good way. Confirm the game's existence in a Nintendo Direct and then make it available as soon as the presentation is over. I'm really hoping that happens, but no matter what, I'm just happy Minecraft is finding a home on Wii U. At the very least, it should pave the way for future Minecraft updates/outings to land on upcoming Nintendo hardware.
