RUMOR - Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Wii U version may have been leaked online

I absolutely hate sharing this kind of news, but it's news nonetheless. Early rumblings have surfaced on a potential leak for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U. Somehow, it seems the game may have been let loose on the darker corners of the internet. This is backed up by evidence of sound files and select images leaking.

We do not condone this leak, nor will we share any footage/screens/audio from the leaked version. Hopefully Nintendo can get out there and squash this right away.

My first thought was "Yeah, but it's the WiiU Version"... but I realized that's good enough for anyone who wants to play the game without paying for it at all.

I know a handful of people who like to pirate games, and they have all sorts of justifications in their brains for what is essentially stealing. But living in a country where video games are reasonably priced and widely available, those justifications really just mean "I'm too much of a cheapskate to reward people for their hard work."

It looks like the Wii U version has been put up on Nintendo's servers, which means people are able to download it using tools PC tools that can get data directly from the servers. However, it's encrypted, so it isn't playable.

Wow, these guys got some serious stuff on the leaker. Spoilers https://youtu.be/ExitLAP6F9U

Time to avoid the internet

Reason why I want Nintendo just cancel the Wii U version altogether

screw you (no offense Smile ), I'm not buying another system for this game. Even if I wanted a switch I probably won't be able to get one for this games launch.

Yeah it's definitely better that they release both versions, just like they did with Twilight Princess back in 2006 (though in that case the Gamecube version was delayed by about... two or three weeks I think). I know of a small few people who said they're gonna get it on Wii U to play it now because they can't afford to get a Switch at launch, or that they wanna wait and get the system in the fall. Most of them have said they'll re-buy it on Switch at some point so they can enjoy it on the go.

Still there's no doubt in my mind it'll sell better on Switch. The fact it's the system's killer app launch game is a major part of that, as sometimes a console needs that one killer app at launch to really help it out (one of the best examples being Halo on the original Xbox).

That would piss off so many people.

I guess keeping a promise and consumer trust is more important than potentially losing millions of sales of the game to piracy

But I'm going to laugh if there's more people pirating the game than those who are actually buying...

Yeah I would say keeping consumer trust is pretty important considering that losing consumer trust can also lead to less sales in the future as well. And you do know that literally almost every game gets pirated right? So it really doesn't make sense to not release a game just for the fear of piracy. I'm sure the pirates will figure out how to do it for Switch too. Does that mean Nintendo shouldn't have released for the Switch? Does that mean all game developers should stop making games because they might get pirated?

Yes. I understand that
And you do know that literally almost every game gets pirated right?
I don't see PS4 and XBOne games pirated (except that one PS4 exploit found by a Brazilian game site but surely Sony sent C&D letters to them and surely patch the exploit out). It'll take a few years to crack them open. Maybe long enough until Sony and Microsoft announce their successors but with better encryption security.
Does that mean Nintendo shouldn't have released for the Switch?
They should especially with the Wii U's sales dropping yearly, being main reason why many third-party developers abandoned it (and that makes me real sad. Maybe it being hacked is the final nail to the coffin). New start, new security measures hopefully improved from 3DS, Wii U (lmao no Internet Browser) and especially the Wii. Get most of the game sales until that time... eventually... comes... hopefully never (let me dream).
Does that mean all game developers should stop making games because they might get pirated?
Hmph. You got me there, especially when there's still games coming to PC despite it being so easy to hack and pirate. Hopefully the sales on PS4 and XBO, the systems yet to be cracked wide open, make up for the loss on PC. But if they do, they should port them to the newer PlayStation and Xbox systems. No Nintendo because they suck at encrypting and not leaving security holes. I sure hope they prove me wrong with how secured the Switch is (wishful thinking, I know). But that would probably won't matter if the Switch is as successful as the PS4... that is, if Nintendo can keep up with the demand. I just hope most of the userbase don't know about the hopefully-never-happening hax

In the end, most people want consoles hacked for free gamez. People wanting to **** the game up with their replacements or modified game files are far outnumbered.
I thank smealum that I can play pirated 3DS games without buying those stupid flash cards. Or hell, I should also thank the emulator developer because I don't even need to buy a 3DS system to play the ISOs though I need a strong computer to use it. Ohhh... just thinking about makes the 3DS and the Wii U lose value to me

Is it confirmed to be real? Because that's quite an early leak.

Shame, Nintendo was really counting on the 13 people was buying the Wii U version.

Yeah i just checked its there on the NUSGRABBER but no ticket yet, saves me having to purchase a new console for one game really. Can hold off and get a switch later in the year...

Well, worse stuff is happening. Jim Sterling is re-branding one of his older videos with new clickbait-y titles, trying to pass points he discussed before as brand-new and original content!!!

I remember hearing about this supposed leak earlier in the week, but it seemed to be false.

Edit: Nnm seems that some stuff is leaking already....like costumes and other features. *sigh* I hope that with the Switch this doesnt happen anymore (or nowhere near as much as the Wii U has =/)

Well, glad GN will not be posting anything. This is where I get most of my gaming news and I've gone for the most part avoiding spoiling anything to major.

Yes, the game has leaked and I've looked through a bunch of art assets that I personally believe to be straight from the game.

Spoiler

That said, be careful what you view online. People will be jerks and try and spoil the game.

So this is the closest thing hackers can do to Nintendo, against PSN's 250'000'000 counts of identity theft and XBL's lizard-squad raids?

Nintendo is really the only console company that should be charging for online. The others aren't even out of beta-testing.

I assume it's because PSN and Xbox Live are much bigger targets.

It hasn't technically been leaked, since the game isn't playable yet. Since there's no 'title key' (or something), the game's files are unusable outside of data mining. So hey, you won't see any real spoilers on YouTube any time soon. It's not quite as bad as it sounds.

That said, there are icons for armour and weapons that got ripped from the game and leaked online. So yeah, might want to avoid looking at those.

They have the iso, but can't do anything with it. There is a very complex AES encryption key preventing them from accessing it. Apparently people are trying to brute force it which is pointless because there are something on the order of 3.4*10^38 possible keys in a 128-bit (32 hexadecimal numbers) AES encryption. Words cannot describe how incredibly futile a brute force attempt would be. The earth weighs about as much as 6*10^27 grams. Take that many paperclips and multiply that by 50 billion and you are on the order of magnitude of the total number of possible AES keys.

Good thing too, would be disappointing to see sales suffer because illegitimate copies are readily available to the less honest. Let's just hope someone with the game already doesn't leak the key.

Am I the only person that thinks this is a good thing?
