Dear Reader:
Top Super Mario 64 speedrunner not done with the game yet
Think the above Super Mario 64 speedrun record is amazing? The man behind the run, Allan Alvarez, isn't so proud of it. While he currently holds the world record with this speedrun, all he sees are the mistakes he made.
“This run I did, I would say, about 80 percent of the run I did almost perfectly – I didn’t make any mistakes. And the other 20 percent, I made really big mistakes on,” Alvarez estimates, speaking to Red Bull Games from his home in Spain this week. So let's say you have 16 segments in the run, about 12 I did almost perfectly, and the other four, I lost 15 seconds on on each of them. Technically, there’s about a minute and 15 seconds that I lost on mistakes [in my last run],” he says. “The rest of the time lost is to do with luck based stuff.”
Is Alvarez going to tackle the run again in the hopes of pulling in an even better time? You can find out that and much more in a Red Bull interview here.
