Mortal Kombat 1 has seen some fantastic DLC characters so far, including faces from pop culture in general along with other fan-favorite characters from the Mortal Kombat universe. Today, in honor of National Superhero Day, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has shared a teaser clip of the next DLC character heading our way.

We’ve known for awhile now that The Boys’ Homelander is making his way to Mortal Kombat 1, but we’ve finally gotten a new, albeit brief look at the character in the video above. Boon shared this clip without any mention of when we can expect to hear more about Homelander, but it’s clear NetherRealm is putting the finishing touches on this upcoming DLC.

Once we have a more detailed look at Homelander along with the full release date details, we’ll be sure to share the information with you.

Legend of Zelda movie director hosting Reddit AMA on April 29th, 2024

There are very few things we know about the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie, but one of them is that Wes Ball is the Director. We’re all dying to learn more about the project in the near future, and we could very well get a few tiny details in less than 24 hours.

While Wes Ball will be tackling the Legend of Zelda movie in his future, he most recently stepped behind the camera in order to bring Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes to life. In advance of that film releasing, Ball will be hopping on Reddit Monday to answer a variety of questions in an “Ask Me Anything” interview. These interviews allow Redditors to sign up, leave questions in the form of a comment, and the interviewee can pick/choose the questions they want to respond to.

While the focus of this AMA is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, there’s no doubt going to be plenty of people asking Zelda-related questions. As a matter of fact, the AMA already has a handful of Zelda queries, and it’s going to be very interesting seeing if Ball comments on any of them. With Ball wearing a Zelda shirt in the picture promoting his AMA, there’s at least no doubt he’s excited to be working on the film and would surely love to impart some knowledge!

Thanks to Adam for the heads up!

Back when Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door launched on the GameCube, the title ran at 60fps. With the Switch revamp on the way, it appeared many players expected this version of the game to offer the same frame rate. As was shared months ago and reconfirmed recently, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door runs at 30fps. This tidbit has caused all kinds of complaints and debates online recently, and now a very interesting name has shared their thoughts on the matter.

Abebe Tinari is the director of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, an absolutely gorgeous Switch that that also happens to run at 30fps. In a series of posts on X, Tinari talked about not only his own team’s move to 30fps for Bayonetta Origins, but why Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is likely locking things at 30fps as well.

We often hear from armchair analysts and would-be developers on why a game should/shouldn’t be 60fps and why certain outcomes are acceptable/not acceptable. It’s nice to hear an honest-to-goodness developer chime in on the situation and offer actual insight into how things work, why decisions are made, and just how many things are considered behind the scenes.

You can see some of Tinari’s comments below, but make sure to click over for the full rundown.

I can empathize with the devs of Paper Mario: TTYD on Switch wrt the whole 30fps vs 60fps situation. We tried for a long time to get Cereza and the Lost Demon running at a stable 60fps. We were able to maintain 60fps inside the Tír na nÓg stages, but it just wasn’t possible to keep the same visual fidelity and hold 60fps in the forest. My choice was either to have an unlocked framerate with frequent dips to 30~50 fps, or cap it and hold a stable 30fps.

The most difficult part of game dev is making choices about what to prioritize. Everything has a cost, both in terms of dev time to implement it, and in terms of processing time when the game is running…ultimately you simply cannot have everything.

CatLD may not look visually complex, but there is actually a ton of post-processing going on under the hood: the colours fading in like ink as you move through the world, the shading patterns on objects, the way the world curves to allow you to see further into the distance.

The game industry has no shortage of Metroidvanias, and one up-and-coming entry in the genre that’ll be vying for your attention is Biomorph.

In Biomorph, players must use their skills to explore a vast, varied world. Solve puzzles and platforming challenges, fight deadly monsters and take their shapes to use their powers. But beware – every conquered creature can come back with new and even more threatening powers.

As Biomorph is trying to do something a little different with combat, the devs faced some interesting challenges along the way. In an interview with Game Rant, Lucid Dreams’ co-founders Maxime Grégoire and Francis Lapierre spoke up on one particular element of combat that proved to be a head-scratcher for the team.

Another challenge that we had that we didn’t see coming but quickly became apparent was that we made the game with contact damage. You always have two choices: you have damage on contact or just from attacks. Contact damage works well in Hollow Knight because it’s simple to understand and you can create fun patterns. It works well when you have one shape, one character.

But in Biomorph , you can have bigger monsters, and smaller monsters, so the damage on contact with the touch distance was challenging to pull off because with big monsters, we had to add bonuses to the touch distance so they’d clear enemies because they have a bigger hitbox. So combat was complicated to pull off and to bring to a state where you can have actual fun with all the monsters without feeling too constrained.

First 4 Figures has an extremely good working relationship with Nintendo, as the company has released all sorts of statues based on Nintendo’s biggest and brightest franchises. That relationship seems rock-solid, as the two companies are teaming up once again to release a statue, and this time it’s for an Animal Crossing favorite.

First 4 Figures has announced that they’re working on an Animal Crossing: New Horizons “Isabelle” statue, and pre-orders are set to go live on May 2nd, 2024. In the video above we get to see the Exclusive Edition of this statue, which features a touch sensor that plays 3 different official music and voice tracks. In general, the statue faithfully captures Isabelle’s appearance, from her floppy ears to her ponytail. The highly detailed base is inspired by the Animal Crossing art style.

First 4 Figures did say that there will be two different version of the Isabelle statue up for grabs, and they will be 9 and 10-inch versions. As for other differences and pricing information, that to will have to wait until closer to launch. As soon as we get any other details, we’ll be sure to share them with you.
