A Japanese Splatoon fan has gone to extreme lengths to complain about the lack of male poses in Splatoon 3. They sold their Nintendo Switch OLED system to buy Nintendo shares just to attend Nintendo’s 83rd Annual General Meeting, which took place today.

During the meeting, the fan stood up and gave a lengthy rant about the lack of male representation in Splatoon 3. According to GLHF’s translation of this, the fan accused Nintendo of “blatantly giving the boys in Splatoon the cold shoulder” and claimed that Nintendo’s marketing for Splatoon 3 has favored female characters over male characters. “From the 2021 Fall Direct and all of the next year trailers always showed the girl character,” the fan said. “There were people like me who were looking forward to playing as a boy, and every day [without seeing the boy character] we were filled with dread that we wouldn’t be able to.”

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa interrupted the fan to say that their question was too long, but they continued to rant anyway. Furukawa eventually thanked them for playing the game and for their opinion and moved on to the next question.
