Yesterday, Ubisoft shared a trailer for the surprise return of the Prince of Persia franchise with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a new 2.5D adventure coming to Switch (and everything else) on Jan. 18th, 2024. Following the game’s reveal, the reaction has been pretty much the opposite of what Ubisoft was surely hoping for.

Taking note of the trailer’s uploads across various YouTube channels (h/t VGC) like Ubisoft, PlayStation, Nintendo of America, IGN and GameSpot, the like/dislike ration has been heavily slanted towards the negative. As of earlier today, the combined amount of likes sat at 21,163, compared to 52,691 dislikes.

Digging through the comments gives a little bit of insight as to why people seem to be miffed with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. There seems to be some sentiment that this title doesn’t look like a ‘true’ Prince of Persia game, with some going so far to say that it’s strange to see a side-scrolling Prince of Persia game instead of the ‘traditional’ 3D outings. Obviously those people don’t know their Prince of Persia history very well!

That’s not the only complaint you’ll find in the comment section, though. Others find the game to be visually boring, and there’s a number of people who don’t seem to enjoy the music on display in the trailer. Obviously, we can’t know the reasoning for everyone who disliked the trailer, but the topics mentioned so far seem to be the biggest culprits.

It’s worth noting that out of all the major channels that uploaded the trailer for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the Nintendo of America upload is the only one that has more likes than dislikes. Looks like this game falls in line quite nicely with what Nintendo fans want or appreciate.

That is a very weird reaction, I don't understand what the problem would be, unless they're mad that there is nothing happening with the Sands of Time remake?

@ninjinister

But they never said Sands of Time wasn't being worked on. It's not like Ubi can't make multiple games...

This is what people usually do online: Complain.
And I'm certainly no exception to the rule.
