As far as we know, The Sims 5 isn’t coming to Switch. We’re hopeful that changes, but there’s no word on that front as of right now. What we do know is that those who play The Sims 5 will get a little taste of how Nintendo handles, of all things, online multiplayer.

In an interview on the Radio Times podcast, The Sims vice president of franchise creative Lyndsay Pearson spoke about how The Sims 5 is taking a different approach with multiplayer. According to Pearson, the team behind The Sims 5 talked about Animal Crossing: New Horizons quite a bit during development, and in particular the conversation centered around how Nintendo handled multiplayer in that game.

“It is such a good example of my little space, my little island, but I can invite you over. And we’ve seen throughout the last few years of Animal Crossing, people inventing ways to play together that the game doesn’t specifically support, but they’ve made up scavenger hunts or whatever, which is amazing. Or people who hosted talk shows on Animal Crossing, I think, is incredible, right?”

It’s not often you hear Nintendo praised for their approach to online multiplayer, but you can definitely see how elements of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ online gameplay led to some very interesting and unique experiences. Looks like The Sims 5 is going to take that same direction and run with it.
