Nintendo takes down over 8k Switch emulators and clones

Nintendo is always going after emulators and piracy, but they’ve really cranked up their efforts in recent months.
Just a few weeks back, Nintendo went after the team behind the Yuzu Switch emulator and successfully got it taken down. Not surprisingly, plenty of other emulation teams and supporters looked to save the Yuzu emulator or work on their own clones. Not surprisingly, Nintendo was keeping an eye on those activities as well.
Nintendo has now sent out a DMCA takedown that has managed to kill off over 8,000 Switch emulator backups and clones that followed in the wake of Yuzu’s demise. These were all being hosted on Github, and now they’ve disappeared without a trace. Apparently the DMCA resulted in the removal of over 100 repositories for Switch emulator data.
A Nintendo rep has commented on the matter, and you can read their statement below.
“The reported repositories offer and provide access to the yuzu emulator or code based on the yuzu emulator. The yuzu emulator is primarily designed to play Nintendo Switch games. Specifically, yuzu illegally circumvents Nintendo’s technological protection measures and runs illegal copies of Nintendo Switch games.”
